Temperature And Stress Distributions Produced In Long Circular Cylinders Cooled By Emission Of Thermal Radiation, Robert S. Pritchard Dec 1965

Temperature And Stress Distributions Produced In Long Circular Cylinders Cooled By Emission Of Thermal Radiation, Robert S. Pritchard

Mechanical Engineering ETDs

This study involves the determination of the temperature and stress distributions produced in long circumferentially symmetric circular cylinders cooled by emission of thermal radiation from the lateral surface. Temperature and strain responses obtained from an experimental model are presented for a set of parameters which correspond to the highest strain level which could be accurately determined with the strain gages. These responses are in good agreement with the results obtained by solution of an appropriate mathematical model. Temperature responses obtained from the same model, but having a higher initial temperature, are also presented and compared with analytical results. Reasonably good …

Obtaining Highway Engineering Services From Professional Engineers In Private Practice, R. E. Shaver, John W. Hutchinson

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

Current state highway department procedures for obtaining private professional engineering services are reviewed and summarized as part of a study of the consulting engineering contracting policy and procedures of the Kentucky Department of Highways. The current bases used by state highway departments for establishment of fees for the professional services of Engineering Consultants, Attorneys, Right-of-Way Appraisers, Right-of-Way Buyers, and Architects are summarized, by state, in Table 1. In general, the consulting engineering contracting practices followed in Kentucky were found to be a combination of the most desirable points of procedure represented in the replies received from other state highway departments …

A General Study Of Highway Construction Materials Jefferson County (A Pilot Study), James H. Havens, Robert C. Deen

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

The general geology of Jefferson County is very similar to that of other counties lying along the fringes of the Outer Bluegrass area -- that is to say, bedrocks are more-or-less horizontally stratified and consist principally of limestones and shales. The present topography is largely the result of erosion; the soil mantles are residual products of weathering of the uppermost stratum of bedrock or shale (as the case may be).

The unique features of the area are associated with the Ohio River and outwashes resulting from encroachments of two glaciations. The toe or southern boundary of ice did not cross …

Analysis Of The White Emitter-Follower Amplifier, William Parker Finch Dec 1965

Analysis Of The White Emitter-Follower Amplifier, William Parker Finch

Masters Theses

The analysis of the White emitter-follower, indicated that this circuit exhibits definite advantages over the the conventional emitter-follower in four areas: gain, input impedance, output impedance, and amplification of bipolar pulses. The feedback in the White emitter-follower accounts for he advantages.

A major disadvantage of the emitter-follower is the variation in beta, for large collector current swings, which results in unequal amplification of bipolar pulses. It has been shown that the White emitter-follower does not exhibit this non-linear beta characteristic due to the compensation of the feedback loop. A decrease in beta in the White emitter-follower will result in an …

Test 927: Allis-Chalmer 190 Xt (Lpg), Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

EXPLANATION OF TEST REPORT GENERAL CONDITIONS East tractor is a production model equipped for common usage. Power consuming accessories can be disconnected only when it is convenient for the operator to do so in practice. Additional weight can be added as ballast if the manufacturer regularly supplies it for sale. The static tire loads and the inflation pressures muse conform to recommendations in the Tire Standards published by the Society of Automotive Engineers. PREPARATION FOR PERFORMANCE RUNS The engine crank case is drained and refilled with a measured amount of new oil conforming to specifications in the operator’s manual. The …

Torsional-Flexural Buckling Of Thin-Walled Open Sections, Pen J. Fang, George Winter Nov 1965

Torsional-Flexural Buckling Of Thin-Walled Open Sections, Pen J. Fang, George Winter

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

INTRODUCTION Compression members with thin-walled open sections, because of their low torsional rigidities and because their cross-sectional configuration is such that the centroid and the shear center often do not coincide, can buckle at loads well below the Euler load by interaction of torsion and bending. Fast expanding applications of such sections in civil and architectural engineering call for an extensive investigation of torsional-flexural buckling. Basic theory of torsional-flexural buckling is treated by a number of authors, I,2 and simplifications of the basic theory in the elastic range for the design purposes together with some test results were reported previously. …
