Automated Classification Of Malignant Melanoma Based On Detection Of Atypical Pigment Network In Dermoscopy Images Of Skin Lesions, Nabin K. Mishra

Doctoral Dissertations

“Melanoma causes more deaths than any other form of skin cancer. Early melanoma detection is important to prevent progression to a more deadly stage. Automated computer-based identification of melanoma from dermoscopic images of skin lesions is the most efficient method in early diagnosis. An automated melanoma identification system must include multiple steps, involving lesion segmentation, feature extraction, feature combination and classification. In this research, a classifier-based approach for automatically selecting a lesion border mask for segmentation of dermoscopic skin lesion images is presented. A logistic regression based model selects a single lesion border mask from multiple border masks generated by …

Radio Frequency Interference (Rfi) Modeling Of Complex Modules In Mobile Devices And System-Level Modeling For Transient Esd Simulation, Tianqi Li

Doctoral Dissertations

"The thesis is composed of three papers, which cover the systematic modeling of radio-frequency-interference (RFI) and electro-static-discharge (ESD) problems happened in mobile devices.

In the first paper, an averaging technique is developed, for phase resolved scanning over random fields generated by multiple uncorrelated stochastic sources. This method can separate the field contribution of each noise source and resulting field patterns as if the out-of-interest sources were turned off. The scanned data can be used for emission source localization, far-field pattern calculation and Huygens's box modeling.

In the second paper, using Huygens's Equivalent Theorem a systematic approach for the modeling of …

Modeling And Estimation Of Crosstalk Across A Channel With Multiple, Non-Parallel Coupling And Crossings Of Multiple Aggressors In Practical Pcbs, Arun Reddy Chada

Doctoral Dissertations

"In Section 1, the focus is on alleviating the modeling challenges by breaking the overall geometry into small, unique sections and using either a Full-Wave or fast equivalent per-unit-length (Eq. PUL) resistance, inductance, conductance, capacitance (RLGC) method or a partial element equivalent circuit (PEEC) for the broadside coupled traces that cross at an angle. The simulation challenge is resolved by seamlessly integrating the models into a statistical simulation tool that is able to quantify the eye opening at BERs that would help electrical designers in locating crosstalk sensitive regions in the high speed backplane channel designs.

Section 2 investigates the …

Analysis And Modeling Of Resilience For Networked Systems, Kamlesh Ashok Joshi Jan 2014

Analysis And Modeling Of Resilience For Networked Systems, Kamlesh Ashok Joshi

Masters Theses

"A cyber physical system (CPS) has two main subsystems; a physical infrastructure that is responsible for managing and implementing physical tasks, e.g., generation and distribution of a physical commodity, and a cyber infrastructure that is used to support and enhance these physical operations through computing, communication, and control. Imperfect cyber control can lower the efficacy and even reliability of existing physical infrastructures. As such, justifiable reliance on CPSs requires rigorous investigation of the effect of incorporating cyber infrastructure on functional and non-functional aspects of system performance. One non-functional metric of note is resilience, defined as the ability of a system …

Application Of Electrically Invisible Antennas To The Modulated Scatterer Technique, Dylan Andrew Crocker Jan 2014

Application Of Electrically Invisible Antennas To The Modulated Scatterer Technique, Dylan Andrew Crocker

Masters Theses

"The Modulated Scatterer Technique (MST) has shown promise for applications in microwave imaging, electric field mapping, and materials characterization. Traditionally, MST scatterers consist of dipole antennas centrally loaded with a lumped element capable of modulation (commonly a PIN diode). By modulating the load element, the signal scattered from the MST scatterer is also modulated. However, due to the small size of such scatterers, it can be difficult to reliably detect the modulated signal. Increasing the modulation depth (a parameter related to how well the scatterer modulates the scattered signal) may improve the detectability of the scattered signal. In an effort …

Cable Discharge Events (Cde) -- A Modeling And Simulation Perspective, Viswa Pilla Jan 2014

Cable Discharge Events (Cde) -- A Modeling And Simulation Perspective, Viswa Pilla

Masters Theses

"Cable discharge events (CDE) typically occur when a charged cable is connected to an electronic device. Several CDE damages in Ethernet LAN and USB communication interface equipment are reported by the IC manufacturers. CDE differs from other types of ESD such as human body model (HBM), charged device model (CDM) and IEC 61000-4-2 mainly due to faster rise times, longer pulse widths and higher peak currents. Various factors such as cable geometries, charging and discharging mechanisms, and load conditions influence CDE. Several researchers have developed some measurement techniques to understand CDE waveforms. However, there is little information regarding its modeling …

Improved Phase Shedding Technique In A Multiphase Converter System, Anagha Rayachoti Jan 2014

Improved Phase Shedding Technique In A Multiphase Converter System, Anagha Rayachoti

Masters Theses

"Multiphase converters are increasingly gaining prominence in the field of power electronics. The main advantage of a multiphase converter is its increased efficiency in comparison to a single phase converter. The one major drawback of a multiphase converter is its light load efficiency. Light load efficiency in multiphase converters is very poor when compared to single phase converters. Phase shedding is one of the approaches used to improve this light load efficiency but the transient output voltage response of the system shows large deviations during the process of phase change. This thesis proposes a new technique, called the ramp control …

Emission Source Microscopy For Electromagnetic Interference Source Localization, Pratik Rajesh Maheshwari Jan 2014

Emission Source Microscopy For Electromagnetic Interference Source Localization, Pratik Rajesh Maheshwari

Doctoral Dissertations

"For complex and large systems with multiple sources, it is often difficult to localize the sources of radiation. Near-field electromagnetic scanning is used often for root-cause diagnosis by determining field distribution close to the PCB. In the near-field, the evanescent waves are dominant, which may lead to the misinterpretation of them being the dominant sources contributing to the far-field. Another limitation of near-field scanning is that the probe may not be able to access all locations near the PCB due to the complex geometry and high component density. Two-dimensional synthetic aperture radar is a well-known technique used for antenna diagnostic …
