The New Bicycle Model: Introducing Software Considerations Early Into The Systems Engineering Design And Integration Process, Nathaniel Dinglasan Angat

Master's Theses

Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company, Sunnyvale, California is in the business of designing and engineering satellites for commercial and government customers. This task is by no means a trivial endeavor but Lockheed MartinSunnyvale has many decades of experience in Systems Engineering. Training in systems engineering is a long process whose training tools must be kept up-to-date and appropriate as new advances in technology evolve along-side with the processes that develop these ever-evolving solutions. For many years new systems engineers have been introduced to the Bicycle Model as a paradigm for designing and developing complex systems that are composed of diverse …

Senior Project #7: Longboard Test Apparatus, Derek Chan, Colin Harris, Nico Lee Jun 2012

Senior Project #7: Longboard Test Apparatus, Derek Chan, Colin Harris, Nico Lee

Mechanical Engineering

The aim of this project is to create a machine that will test longboards made by Method Sports and Freebord. Through analysis and many iterations, Board Busters has assembled a design to fulfill the requirements set forth by these companies, who also sponsor the project. Through use of a four-bar, frame, and two spinning disks, the machine will accurately simulate riding conditions seen by a board in use by customers, allowing the sponsoring companies to improve designs and verify warranties.

Generation, Mechanical And Statistical Analysis, And Fem Simulation Of Fracture Of Repeatable Random Rough Surfaces, Hector Medina Apr 2012

Generation, Mechanical And Statistical Analysis, And Fem Simulation Of Fracture Of Repeatable Random Rough Surfaces, Hector Medina

Theses and Dissertations

Natural weathering and wear of structural materials in service nearly always generate surface roughness, and follow the Central Limit Theorem prediction for surface topology. This study couples experimental and statistical theory, and FEM to extend knowledge of life of materials from initial service surface conditions through surface damage accumulation. Statistical moments and other parameters were correlated with fracture locations probability (H/N), versus auto correlation length, and depth. As the surface grows to a full Gaussian, H/N increases its dependence on profile’s Average and RMS Roughness, and derived parameters. This dependence shows an asymptotic limit behavior that approaches agreeably Griffith’s crack …

Control Of A Robotic Prototype Multi-Axis Synergistic System, Julio A. Torres Jan 2012

Control Of A Robotic Prototype Multi-Axis Synergistic System, Julio A. Torres

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Balance is an ability that every person has and uses in normal daily life, to walk, run, stand, dance, etc. However, there are people who suffer a kind of balance impairment. The Computerized Dynamic Posturography (CDP) is technique in balance rehabilitation, where the patient is asked to stand on a moving platform that is equipped with sensors that measure how well you maintain your balance. In this thesis, a new CDP mechatronic system, the Multi-Axis Synergistic System (MASS), for balance assessment is being developed.

As a first stage and as the objective of this research work the transferable control algorithm …
