Investigations On The Corrosion Resistance Of Metallic Bipolar Plates (Bpp) In Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (Pemfc) - Understanding Of The Effects Of Material, Coating And Manufacturing, Ender Dur
Theses and Dissertations
Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) systems are promising technology for contributing to meet the deficiency of world`s clean and sustainable energy requirements in the near future. Metallic bipolar plate (BPP) as one of the most significant components of PEMFC device accounts for the largest part of the fuel cell`s stack. Corrosion for metallic bipolar plates is a critical issue, which influences the performance and durability of PEMFC. Corrosion causes adverse impacts on the PEMFC`s performance jeopardizing commercialization. This research is aimed at determining the corrosion resistance of metallic BPPs, particularly stainless steels, used in PEMFC from different aspects. Material …

D Associate professor, Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Time: 11 a.m. Place: Room E3210 Engineering East Hall Date: Friday August 12, 2011 Corrosion initiation and growth rate are important properties in maintaining structural integrity, especially for surface and pit corrosion of common infrastructure and transportation metals. …
Conversion Of Glycerol To Lactic Acid Under Low Corrosive Conditions With Homogeneous And Heterogeneous Catalysts, Lu Chen
Masters Theses
With the increasing demand for biodiesel, the accumulation of byproduct, crude glycerol has become a problem which needs to be solved. Lactic acid is one of the value-added chemical which can be produced from glycerol that has wide uses in food and chemical industry. Although glycerol can be converted to lactic acid with an alkali as the catalyst at high glycerol conversion (100 mol%) and lactic acid yield (around 90 mol%), the high alkalinity would cause severe corrosiveness to a stainless steel reactor. In this study two tasks were performed to convert glycerol to lactic acid with satisfactory conversion and …
The Effects Of Heat Treatment On Area Percent Porosity And Corrosion Behavior Of High-Nickel Thermal Spray Coatings, Travis Crowe, Alec Guraydin
The Effects Of Heat Treatment On Area Percent Porosity And Corrosion Behavior Of High-Nickel Thermal Spray Coatings, Travis Crowe, Alec Guraydin
Materials Engineering
Samples of two Thermal Spray Coating (TSC) alloys on a low carbon steel substrate were obtained: alloy C276 and Nicko-Shield 200. Specimens of each alloy were subjected to heat treatments at temperatures at 1100° for 60 minutes and 1200° for 10 minutes, with some specimens left in the as-sprayed condition. Three replicates were prepared for each condition. Thin 1” strips were cut using a diamond wafering blade for porosity measurements and 2” x 1” specimens were cut for corrosion testing using a SiC abrasive saw. The porosity specimens were mounted in acrylic resin, polished, and examined using SEM. From these …
Oxygen Diffusion Characterization Of Frp Composites Used In Concrete Repair And Rehabilitation, Chandra K. Khoe
Oxygen Diffusion Characterization Of Frp Composites Used In Concrete Repair And Rehabilitation, Chandra K. Khoe
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Many independent studies have conclusively demonstrated that fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) slow down chloride-induced corrosion of steel in concrete. The mechanism for this slow down is not well understood but it has been hypothesized that FRP serves as a barrier to the ingress of chloride, moisture, and oxygen that sustain electrochemical corrosion of steel.
This dissertation presents results from an experimental study that determined the oxygen permeation rates of materials used in infrastructure repair. In the study, the oxygen permeation constants for epoxy, carbon and glass fiber laminates, concrete, epoxy-concrete and FRP-concrete systems were determined and a method developed to …
