Commercial Mineral Waters Of North-Central Texas, Shirley Alfred Lynch Jan 1935

Commercial Mineral Waters Of North-Central Texas, Shirley Alfred Lynch

Professional Degree Theses

"The great increase in demand for mineral water the past few years has lead to the development of a new industry, the making of mineral water crystals. Wells that were abandoned as unsuitable for water supply, due to their salinity, have been cleaned or redrilled, in a frantic effort to supply the ever increasing demand of the crystal plants. The inevitable result is that their waters are being used at an alarming rate of consumption. The popular conception is that there is no end to the amount of charged waters that may be obtained, and, as a result, within some …

Dedusting And Preparation Of Screenings, Erwin Gammeter Jan 1935

Dedusting And Preparation Of Screenings, Erwin Gammeter

Professional Degree Theses

"There are a number of advantages to be obtained by the removal of fine dust and the proper proportioning and mixing of the smaller grades of coal. The dedusted coal is much better for mechanical stokers since it contains very little dust to drop through the grates or to be carried up the stack. The fuel bed is more open with the dust removed, combustion is better, and the draft is more easily regulated. Dust removal also increases the fusion temperature of the ash, reducing the amount of slag formed on the grate. Elimination of clouds of dust at points …

A Study Of Missouri Springs, Harry Cloyd Bolon Jan 1935

A Study Of Missouri Springs, Harry Cloyd Bolon

Professional Degree Theses

"This thesis is based upon a study of the large springs of the Ozarks and is designed to answer many of the requests that are being received continually by the Missouri and the United States Geological Surveys. The various studies inculcated in this report are made from a rather limited amount of data available regarding the size, character, and sources of these springs and what they are actually worth to the State of Missouri. The main body of the thesis is a revised tabulation of data contained in Chapter 3, Volume 20, Missouri Bureau of Geology and Mines, "Water Resources …

Return Flow Study Of The North Platte River, E. W. Carlton Jan 1935

Return Flow Study Of The North Platte River, E. W. Carlton

Professional Degree Theses

"The investigation of return flow on the North Platte River, between Whalen, Wyoming and North Platte, Nebraska, was authorized by House Bill No. 308, "Flood control Act," Mississippi River and Tributaries, February, 28, 1929. The purpose of this study was to determine, if possible, the amount of return flow from the United States Reclamation Service "North Platte Irrigation Project", and its effect on the future development of irrigation in the North Platte Valley, flood control of the North Platte River, and it's ultimate effect upon navigation possibilities of the Missouri River. The particular phase of the above problem of which …

Personnel Relations, James Kneeland Richardson Jan 1935

Personnel Relations, James Kneeland Richardson

Professional Degree Theses

"The author has not attempted to portray an idealistic scheme in this paper. It is the result of personal experience among working men, listening to their complaints and grievances; and suddenly discovering that all any man asked was the right to be independent during his declining years; the right of free speech; the right to earn his living by working under good conditions; and the right to receive in compensation for his labor a fair and equitable division of profits on goods resulting from his work. All the points taken up in this paper are not common to one industry, …

Tax Depletion Problems Of The Tri-State District, Glenn A. Dooley Jan 1935

Tax Depletion Problems Of The Tri-State District, Glenn A. Dooley

Professional Degree Theses

"The passage of the Internal Revenue Act of 1918, with its articles affecting mines and mining, ushered in a new field of activity for the mining engineer. With the final adoption of the Act in February 1919, it became evident that an immediate valuation would be required; not as of the present date but, in the case of older mines, as of a date six years before. This retroactive legislation brought confusion to the operator and taxed the ingenuity of the engineer. The law provided that the value of the property could be subtracted from the income tax returns, as …

The U.S.G.S. Topographic Map: Its Value And Method Of Construction, Daniel Kennedy Jan 1935

The U.S.G.S. Topographic Map: Its Value And Method Of Construction, Daniel Kennedy

Professional Degree Theses

"Topographic maps, which differ from the base map in that they show not only relative distance and direction but also the accurate shape of the earths surface, are not new, but represent the constant improvement in mans efforts to reproduce on paper all that he sees and knows of regions of the globe.

While history records the first maps known to man as being made by the Babylonians on clay tablets centuries before Christ, the first relief map was made by the Ninth Inca who died in the year 1191. The present method of showing relief by contours was employed …

Sherardizing As Applied To Stampings From Light Gauge Metals, Matthew Patrick Brazill Jan 1935

Sherardizing As Applied To Stampings From Light Gauge Metals, Matthew Patrick Brazill

Professional Degree Theses

"Sherardizing, or dry galvanizing as it is sometimes called, is a process whereby articles of iron or steel are rendered rust proof by applying a coating of zinc. The coating produced by this process is first an alloy with the underlying metal. After this alloying action is completed the outer layer of zinc is deposited. Briefly stated, this coating is not a pure layer of zinc, but a zinc iron alloy"--The History of Galvanizing, page 1.

The Use Of Activated Alumina For Reclaiming And Reconditioning Turbine, Transformer And Circuit Breaker Oils, Thomas Odie English

Professional Degree Theses

"Advancements during the past few years have provided oil manufacturers with ample reason to claim that good oils no longer wear out because of use, but that deterioration by various destructive agencies such as moisture, air, heat, oxidation, emulsification and electro-chemical action may have the effect of rendering the oil totally unfit for use"--page 1.

U.S. Forest Service Acquisition Surveys In The Ozark Region Of Missouri, Booker Hall Rucker Jan 1935

U.S. Forest Service Acquisition Surveys In The Ozark Region Of Missouri, Booker Hall Rucker

"Some idea as to how the plans of the United States Forest Service will tie in with other national plans in establishing their various forests will be given in the following paragraphs. First, and of most interest to the engineers, - the United States Forest Service plans to tie in very securely with those of the United States Engineers Corps work on flood control in the Mississippi drainage area. The general set up of the various Federal Forests, as to management, operation, and so on, are all on the same general lines. This discussion, however, will be only of the …

A Study In The Production Of Calendered Linoleum, Harry Simanton Pence Jan 1935

A Study In The Production Of Calendered Linoleum, Harry Simanton Pence

Professional Degree Theses

"The manufacture of similar products in two different plants results in duplication of effort, high production costs and difficulty in maintaining uniformity. The bringing of Philadelphia production of Battleship, Jaspe and Cork Carpet to the Trenton Plant will enable all calendered goods to be produced under single control, thus insuring uniformity and better supervision"--Introduction, page 8.

Comparison Of Various Types Of Road Surfacing, Charles Cyrus Tevis

Professional Degree Theses

"It is the intention of this thesis to compare the more common types of road surfacing by establishing both the good and poor qualities of each type of pavement. All of the subject matter that follows is based on the theory that each approved type of pavement has its use and the most economical pavement to construct is the one that gives the greatest service to the traveling public per dollar, invested over a period of years...There are only four major types of road surfacing, namely; concrete, asphalt, brick and gravel that are now being constructed in most states and …
