Structural Analysis By Minimum Strain Energy Methods, John B. Heagler Jan 1958

Structural Analysis By Minimum Strain Energy Methods, John B. Heagler

Professional Degree Theses

"Analysis of structure has its conception for the engineer early in his formal education and follows a set sequency from solving for equilibrium in simple beams and free bodies to more complicated solutions for stresses and deflections in multiply redundant structures.

Difficulty arises for the engineer when he loses the sequence of the subject and finds himself memorizing formulas and methods of solution without a clear and concise understanding of the underlying fundamental principles involved in arriving at these formulae and methods of solution.

The Aircraft Structural Analyst finds himself in a relatively new field of engineering structural design. Here …

A Study Of Gas Porosity In Aluminum Casting Alloys Using Radioactive Hydrogen As A Tracer, Osborne Milton

Professional Degree Theses

"A method will be described wherein the absorption of hydrogen by aluminum is evaluated using hydrogen 3 as a tracer element. Results show that hydrogen gas is readily absorbed into the melt when it is injected directly, but is not taken on from the combustion products, that quantities of it are released when the metal freezes, and that the commonly used methods of fluxing with chlorine and nitrogen gas are of value for degassing"--Preface, page iii.

Subsurface Geology Of The Mississippi Embayment Of Southeast Missouri, John Gustave Grohskopf Jan 1956

Subsurface Geology Of The Mississippi Embayment Of Southeast Missouri, John Gustave Grohskopf

Professional Degree Theses

"To the southeast of the Ozark Escarpment all municipal, industrial, and agricultural water supplies of record are obtained by drilled wells from alluvial sands and gravels, unconsolidated sands of the Wilcox and McNairy (Ripley) formations, and at a few towns from consolidated Paleozoic dolomites limestones, and sandstones. The irrigation wells obtain their water supply from the Allluvium. These wells have recorded yields of several thousand g.p.m, and the water, though excessively high in iron, is still satisfactory for the irrigation of crops. Some municipal and industrial supplies are obtained from the Wilcox sands, but the water usually requires iron-removal treatment. …

Marcasite From The Upper Mississippi Valley Zinc Area As A Source Of Sulphur, Carl R. Christiansen

Professional Degree Theses

"Sulphur is a mineral material which is as basic as steel to our industry and economy. This fact is not generally realized because it is seldom seen, but it goes into the manufacture of practically every article of clothing we wear, and the food we eat is dependent upon it. Most items we produce require the use of sulphur at some stage of their manufacture. The consumption of sulphur has been increasing rapidly and is now far above its World War II peak. Production has been greatly increased but has been unable to keep up with the increasing demand. This …

An Application Of Skew Frequency Curves To River Stages, Vernon A. C. Gevecker Jan 1950

An Application Of Skew Frequency Curves To River Stages, Vernon A. C. Gevecker

Professional Degree Theses

"Floods have occurred in the past and will occur again in the future. References to floods are incorporated in some of the early writings of man. Unfortunately though man has recorded the event, he has seldom recorded facts whereby it is possible to determine the volume of flow or the height to which the water rose. Where man has recorded the height to which water rose, much data such as channel conditions, vegetation coverage on the flood plain, etc., remains vague or unknown.

It has been only in comparatively recent times with the advent of the steamboat that man has …

Study Of Oil Well Squeeze Cementing Operations, Arthur Wellesley Walker Jan 1949

Study Of Oil Well Squeeze Cementing Operations, Arthur Wellesley Walker

Professional Degree Theses

"A study of the literature and field operations indicates conclusively that squeeze cementing operations are performed almost exclusively as corrective measures in completing or working-over wells. The most common use is to correct for faulty cement operations during original well completions. Careful study of field operations indicate that in most cases formations are broken-down at pressures far less than that required to lift the overburden, and that large quantities of drilling mud and cement may be pumped into the well (and formations) at pressures less than that of the overburden. Analyses of the forces indicate that the formations will be …
