Spray And Combustion Studies Of High Reactivity Gasoline In Comparison To Diesel Under Advanced Compression Ignition Engine Conditions, Meng Tang Jan 2018

Spray And Combustion Studies Of High Reactivity Gasoline In Comparison To Diesel Under Advanced Compression Ignition Engine Conditions, Meng Tang

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

Gasoline compression ignition (GCI) technology has demonstrated great potentials in improving fuel economy and reducing engine-out NOx and particulate matter emissions. Development and application of the GCI technology on multi-cylinder engines require both fundamental understandings of the gasoline spray combustion characteristics and accurate numerical tools. Due to the large differences in the thermo-physical and the chemical properties between gasoline and diesel range fuels, differences in the spray combustion characteristics between gasoline and diesel is expected. Reports on the gasoline spray combustion characteristics under conditions relevant to medium to heavy-duty engines are scarce and this dissertation aims to fill in …

Assessment Of Annular Flow Boiling In The Context Of Computational Fluid Dynamics (Cfd) Simulations, Experiments, And Existing Correlations, Hrishikesh Prasad Ranga Prasad Jan 2017

Assessment Of Annular Flow Boiling In The Context Of Computational Fluid Dynamics (Cfd) Simulations, Experiments, And Existing Correlations, Hrishikesh Prasad Ranga Prasad

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

The main objective of the current work is to achieve a better understanding – through modeling and simulation/programming activities – of annular flow-boiling and its applications based on a synthesis of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, existing correlations, and experiments. A unique and rigorous 2-D CFD simulations technique was developed for annular flow-boiling to propose a correlation for convective component of Heat Transfer Coefficient (HTC) – defined here as flow-boiling in the absence of nucleation. To provide a context for the correlation structure of convective component of HTC, flow-physics details of annular flow-boiling and correlation structure (based on fundamental considerations) …

Numerical Analysis Of Two Phase Flow And Heat Transfer In Condensers, Pooya Mirzabeygi Aug 2014

Numerical Analysis Of Two Phase Flow And Heat Transfer In Condensers, Pooya Mirzabeygi

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Steam surface condensers are commonly used in the power generation industry and their performance significantly affects the efficiency of the power plant. Therefore, it is vital to acquire a better understanding of the complex phenomena occurring inside condensers. A general three-dimensional numerical model is developed in this study to simulate the two-phase flow and heat transfer inside full-scale industrial condensers with irregular tube bundle shapes. The Eulerian-Eulerian two-phase model is selected to simulate gas and liquid flows and the interaction between them. A porous media approach is adopted to model the presence of large number of tubes in the condenser. …

Modeling And Numerical Investigation Of Hot Gas Defrost On A Finned Tube Evaporator Using Computational Fluid Dynamics, Oai The Ha Nov 2010

Modeling And Numerical Investigation Of Hot Gas Defrost On A Finned Tube Evaporator Using Computational Fluid Dynamics, Oai The Ha

Master's Theses

Defrosting in the refrigeration industry is used to remove the frost layer accumulated on the evaporators after a period of running time. It is one way to improve the energy efficiency of refrigeration systems. There are many studies about the defrosting process but none of them use computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. The purpose of this thesis is (1) to develop a defrost model using the commercial CFD solver FLUENT to simulate numerically the melting of frost coupled with the heat and mass transfer taking place during defrosting, and (2) to investigate the thermal response of the evaporator and the …
