Should Robots Prosecute And Defend?, Stephen E. Henderson

Stephen E Henderson

Even when we achieve the ‘holy grail’ of artificial intelligence—machine intelligence that is at least as smart as a human being in every area of thought—there may be classes of decisions for which it is intrinsically important to retain a human in the loop. On the common account of American criminal adjudication, the role of prosecutor seems to include such decisions given the largely unreviewable declination authority, whereas the role of defense counsel would seem fully susceptible of automation. And even for the prosecutor, the benefits of automation might outweigh the intrinsic decision-making loss, given that the ultimate decision—by judge …

Autonomous Cars And Driverless Lethal Autonomy, Nyagudi Musandu Nyagudi Nov 2015

Autonomous Cars And Driverless Lethal Autonomy, Nyagudi Musandu Nyagudi

Nyagudi M Nyagudi

“The small picture” - make an advanced autonomous /driverless car. Lots of algorithms, sensors, computers and other gizmos. Now get it to take you to work, park itself and seamlessly run your family errands around the city. Taking grandma to the doctor for the medical check-up, getting the children from school, etc. With Radar, Lidar and other sensors, the car steering with ease through the traffic, no driver to pay, that is another plus, fuel/energy efficiency, yet another plus. It is a bold new world and the sky is the limit. Without the resolution of “small picture” issues there is …

Improving Coalition Planning By Making Plans Alive, Jitu Patel, Michael C. Dorneich, David Mott, Ali Bahrami, Cheryl Giammanco Jan 2013

Improving Coalition Planning By Making Plans Alive, Jitu Patel, Michael C. Dorneich, David Mott, Ali Bahrami, Cheryl Giammanco

Michael C. Dorneich

The Collaborative Planning Model (CPM) supports human planners in managing planning information and facilitating automated reasoning. It aims to make plans 'alive' by digitizing planning concepts to facilitate their dynamic use, modification, dissemination, and reuse.

Synthesis Of Multiple-Input Translinear Element Networks, Bradley Minch, Paul Hasler, Chris Diorio Jul 2012

Synthesis Of Multiple-Input Translinear Element Networks, Bradley Minch, Paul Hasler, Chris Diorio

Bradley Minch

We describe two systematic procedures for synthesizing multiple-input translinear element (MITE) networks that produce an output current that is equal to product of a number of input currents, each of which is raised to an arbitrary rational power. By using the first procedure, we obtain a MITE network, called a two-layer network, that is relatively insensitive to mismatch in the MITE weight values. By using the second procedure, we arrive at a MITE network, called a cascade network, that reduces the fan-in required of each MITE. We illustrate each ofthese procedures with an example.

Computation Intelligence Method To Find Generic Non-Coding Rna Search Models, Jennifer A. Smith Sep 2010

Computation Intelligence Method To Find Generic Non-Coding Rna Search Models, Jennifer A. Smith

Jennifer A. Smith

Fairly effective methods exist for finding new noncoding RNA genes using search models based on known families of ncRNA genes (for example covariance models). However, these models only find new members of the existing families and are not useful in finding potential members of novel ncRNA families. Other problems with family-specific search include large processing requirements, ambiguity in defining which sequences form a family and lack of sufficient numbers of known sequences to properly estimate model parameters. An ncRNA search model is proposed which includes a collection of non-overlapping RNA hairpin structure covariance models. The hairpin models are chosen from …

"Solution To The Reliability Problem Of Radial Electric Distribution Systems Through Artificial Inteligence", E. López, J. Campos, C. Tardón, Fabricio I. Salgado, J. Tardón, R. López Jan 2006

"Solution To The Reliability Problem Of Radial Electric Distribution Systems Through Artificial Inteligence", E. López, J. Campos, C. Tardón, Fabricio I. Salgado, J. Tardón, R. López

Fabricio I. Salgado MSc.

In this paper the distribution electric system reliability is recognized like an artificial intelligence problem. How this idea is applied in evaluation of reliability is detailed. Concepts as Intelligence Matrix and Inter-feeder Route are defined. From the last one a reliability prediction strategy for medium voltage networks is proposed and tested.

Le Diagnostic Automatique Des Anomalies Des Systèmes Electromécaniques, Boukhemis Chetate Dec 1996

Le Diagnostic Automatique Des Anomalies Des Systèmes Electromécaniques, Boukhemis Chetate

Boukhemis Chetate
