A Method Of Minimizing The Power Losses In An Induction Motor With A Squirrel-Cage With Vector Control, Boukhemis Chetate, Aissa Kheldoun

Boukhemis Chetate

An approach to optimizing the flux linkage of the rotor of an induction motor is considered when the motor operates in a vector control mode with indirect orientation in the direction of the field. In this system, the expression for the frequency of the rotor e.m.f. contains the rotor winding impedance; this impedance must therefore be precisely estimated in real time. It is proposed that this should be done using a fuzzy-logic adaptation mechanism. The results of using such a mechanism in a physical model confirm its effectiveness. Key words: induction motor, rotor, vector control, fuzzy logic.

Pulse Multiplication In Forced-Commutated Current Source Converters By Dc Ripple Reinjection, J. Arrillaga, N. R. Watson, Lasantha B. Perera, Y. H. Liu Sep 2004

Pulse Multiplication In Forced-Commutated Current Source Converters By Dc Ripple Reinjection, J. Arrillaga, N. R. Watson, Lasantha B. Perera, Y. H. Liu

Lasantha Bernard Perera

A dc-ripple reinjection scheme is described that doubles the number of pulses of the forcecommutated current source converter. The reinjection circuit includes a feedback converter in series with the dc output which provides automatic adjustment of the reinjected current as the dc side current changes. The reinjection concept is also generalised to produce pulse multiplication.

A Generalized Neuron Based Pss In A Multi-Machine Power System, D. K. Chaturvedi, O. P. Malik, P. K. Kalra

D. K. Chaturvedi Dr.

An artificial neural network can work as an intelligent controller for nonlinear dynamic systems through learning, as it can easily accommodate the nonlinearities and time dependencies. In dealing with complex problems, most common neural networks have some drawbacks of large training time, large number of neurons and hidden layers. These drawbacks can be overcome by a nonlinear controller based on a generalized neuron (GN) which retains the quick response of neural net. Results of studies with a GN-based power system stabilizer on a five-machine power system show that it can provide good damping over a wide operating range and significantly …

Applications Of Generalised Neural Network For Aircraft Landing Control System, D. K. Chaturvedi, R. Chauhan, P. K. Kalra

D. K. Chaturvedi Dr.

It is observed that landing performance is the most typical phase of an aircraft perfromance. During landing operation the stability and controllability are the major considerations. To achieve safe landing, an aircraft has to be controlled in such a way that its wheels touch the ground comfortably and gently within the paved surface of the runway. The conventional control theory found very successful in solving well defined problems, which are described precisely with definite and clearly mentioned boundaries. In real life systems the boundaries can't be defined clearly and conventional controller does not give satisfactory results. Whenever, an aircraft deviates …

Multidimensional Digital Signal Estimation Using Kalman's Theory For Computer-Aided Applications, Ivan E. Villalon-Turrubiates, Jose A. Andrade-Lucio, Oscar G. Ibarra-Manzano

Iván Esteban Villalón Turrubiates

In this paper, we analyze the Multidimensional Kalman Algorithm to estimate a signal corrupted by white Gaussian noise. Because the theory provide a good solution to the problem with a large number of signals, we developed an algorithm for three-dimensional Kalman filtering applied to the positioning problem (latitude, altitude and longitude) of a stationary object based on GPS signals. This application was selected because the incoming signals of the GPS encounters some noise on its way to the receiver, which is originated from different types of sources, the consequences are that the received signals are noisy, therefore inaccurate. The signals …

Experimental Studies Of Generalized Neuron Based Power System Stabilizer, D. K. Chaturvedi, O. P. Malik, P. K. Kalra

D. K. Chaturvedi Dr.

Artificial neural networks (ANNs) can be used as intelligent controllers to control nonlinear, dynamic systems through learning, which can easily accommodate the nonlinearities and time dependencies. However, they require large training time and large number of neurons to deal with complex problems. To overcome these drawbacks, a generalized neuron (GN) has been developed that requires much smaller training data and shorter training time. Taking benefit of these characteristics of the GN, a new power system stabilizer (PSS) is proposed. Results show that the proposed GN-based PSS can provide a consistently good dynamic performance of the system over a wide range …

The Technical Requirements For Multichannel Qam Rf Modulators, Ron D. Katznelson May 2004

The Technical Requirements For Multichannel Qam Rf Modulators, Ron D. Katznelson

Ron D. Katznelson

This paper addresses the technical requirements and implications for multichannel QAM RF modulators and upconverters and the factors that affect their proposed RF specifications. RF output power levels per channel, adjacent channel noise and broadband noise levels of such a class of multichannel modulators will be discussed. A spectral noise specification mask that is equivalent to that obtained from a combination of multiple identical masks of a standard single channel noise specifications based on power addition will be presented. The power back-off required for maintaining the proposed distortion mask levels as a function of the number of adjacent channels supported …

A Case For Including Harmonic Distortion Components In Docsis’ Rf Specifications For Non Aggregating Spurious Components, Ron D. Katznelson

Ron D. Katznelson

This note is submitted in support of a change in DOCSIS specifications for spurious performance. It shows that the impact of a proposed change is negligible and that the advantages far outweigh the perceived disadvantages of adopting such a change.

Improved Generalized Neuron Model For Short Term Load Forecasting, D. K. Chaturvedi, Ravindra Kumar, P. K. Kalra

D. K. Chaturvedi Dr.

The conventional neural networks consisting of simple neuron models have various drawbacks like large training time for complex problems, huge data requirement to train non linear complex problems, unknown ANN structure, the relatively larger number of hidden nodes required, problem of local minima etc. To make the Artificial Neural Network more efficient and to overcome the above-mentioned problems the new improved generalized neuron model is proposed in this work. The proposed neuron models have both summation and product as aggregation function. The generalized neuron models have flexibility at both the aggregation and activation function level to cope with the non-linearity …

Design Of Multiple Facts Controllers For Damping Inter-Area Oscillations: A Decentralized Control Approach, Arturo Roman Messina Jan 2004

Design Of Multiple Facts Controllers For Damping Inter-Area Oscillations: A Decentralized Control Approach, Arturo Roman Messina

A. R. Messina

In this paper, a frequency-domain methodology based on decentralised control theory is proposed to co-ordinate multiple FACTS controllers as well as to minimise the potential for adverse interaction between control loops. First, the concept of dynamic loop interaction in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) control systems is introduced. Using the notion of a generalised dynamic relative gain in decentralised control systems, a method is then proposed to determine the best pairing of inputs and outputs for the design of MIMO systems. Finally, a residue-based method is adopted to tune system controllers. The design methodology is tested on a 6-area, 130-machine and 351- …

The Personal Digital Assistant (Pda) As A Tool For Telementoring Endoscopic Procedures., Cody K. Bumgardner

Cody Bumgardner

Abstract: The telementoring of surgical procedures is currently achieved via a wired infrastructure that usually requires sophisticated videoconference systems. This project represents the first step in assessing the potential for using handheld computers as a mobile alternative to current telementoring systems. Specifically, this project compares a handheld computer to a standard CRT monitor regarding their capability to accurately display video images from an endoscopic procedure. Video images from two previously recorded endoscopic procedures were transmitted from a standard VCR to: 1) a handheld computer (iPAQ 3670 running Pocket PC) via a wireless LAN and 2) a standard CRT monitor via …
