An Stm Study On The Structure Of Pt(100)/Ionic Liquid Omipf6 Interface, Jin Peng, Mian-Gang Li, Li-Qiang Xie, Jia-Wei Yan, Bing-Wei Mao
Journal of Electrochemistry
Potential-dependent structures of Pt(100)/ionic liquid 1-methyl-3-octylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (OMIPF6) interface have been studied by electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy (ECSTM). The cation OMI+ forms ordered structure on Pt(100) surface, which exists in a potential region of about 1.2 V. When the potential is more negative than -0.6 V, it can be seen that the ordered structure transforms to disordered structure. When the potential shifts positively to +0.6 V, the desorption of cations OMI+ occurs, which indicates that strong electrostatic repulsion is needed to overcome chemical interaction between OMIPF6 and Pt(100) surface, leading to the desorption. Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has been acknowledged to play important roles in hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) for hydrogen energy technology. Both computational and experimental results have suggested that the promising catalytic activity of MoS2 for the HER could be attributed to the sulfur edges of two-dimensional nanosheets, while their basal planes were catalytically inert. In order to verify this conclusion, we prepared single MoS2 sheet electrodes which were made of individual MoS2 sheets attached on the self-assembly monolayers (SAM) of SH(CH2)15COOH at Au ultramicroelectrodes (Au/SAM/MoS2). A Study On The Oxidation Of Hydrogen Peroxide At Au(111) And Au(100) Electrodes, Yong-Li Zheng, Jie Wei, Yan-Xia Chen

The oxidation reactions of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) at Au(111) and Au(100) electrodes in 0.1 mol·L-1 HClO4 were investigated by using rotating disk electrode system. It was found that H2O2 could be readily oxidized to O2 at both Au(100) and Au(111) surfaces with the onset potential close to its equilibrium potential. In contrast, the onset overpotential for H2O2 reduction was above 0.4 V, while the onset overpotential for H2O2 oxidation at Au(100) was ca. 0.1 V more negative than that at Au(111), this is probably …

The stable interface is still a challenge for lithium-sulfur (selenium) batteries because of the low conductivity of sulfur (selenium), dissolution of polysulfide (polyselenide), volume expansion of sulfur (selenium), and lithium dendrite growth. This review describers some recent developments in lithium-sulfur (selenium) batteries and highlights our efforts in this field. The possible strategies for building stable interface in the lithium-sulfur (selenium) batteries including nano-restriction effect, chemical bonding, interface adsorption, surface coating, electrolyte optimization, and Lithium anode treatment have been discussed.

In an effort to lower cost of a catalyst, the silver (Ag) core with palladium (Pd) layer then platinum (Pt) island (Ag@Pd@Pt) nanoparticles were synthesized and the electrocatalytic activity of Ag@Pd@Pt nanoparticles on formic acid was compared with that of Au@Pd@Pt nanoparticles reported previously. The results showed that the existence of a small amount of Pt could significantly improve the activity of the catalyst. When the surface coverage of Pt approached 0.5 monolayers, the activity of Ag@Pd@Pt nanoparticles reached the maximum. The chitosan/nonahydrate gel was used as a precursor to realize the uniform mixture of N-polymer and metal salt. After lyophilization treatment, the gel went through heat treatment and acid etch. Accordingly, the Fe-N-doped porous carbon sheet with homogenous composition and microstructure was prepared. Compared with the commercial Pt/C catalyst, the Fe-N-doped porous carbon sheet exhibited more positive onset potential and half-wave potential, higher current density, and especially, excellent durability. The power density of 318 mW·cm-2 was obtained in alkaline fuel cell with the Fe-N-doped porous carbon sheet as a cathode catalyst, which is higher than 267 mW·cm-2 with …

Ultrathin cobalt oxide (Co3O4 ) nanoflakes film material was synthesized by using an electro-deposited cobalt layer as a raw material through a simple oxidation method and followed by a heat treatment at 350 oC. The physical characterizations of the Co3O4 nanoflakes film were performed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) technologies, and the electrochemical activity was measured by cyclic voltammetry (CV). Nuclear security is one of the most important topics for regulatory purposes in Indonesia. Nuclear security measures exist to prevent, detect, and respond to unauthorized removal of radioactive material and the sabotage of nuclear and radiation facilities. Indonesia participates in bilateral and multilateral cooperation and international events such as the Nuclear Security Summit. Indonesia has also ratified several international instruments related to nuclear security. Assessing the vulnerability of physical protection systems (PPS) in nuclear medicine facilities is needed to prevent a security incident that could lead to the malicious use of nuclear material. Theft and sabotage of nuclear materials is becoming globally recognized. The current methods of assessing vulnerability tend to be oriented toward complex nuclear security; consequently, it is excessive to use such methods in simple facilities (i.e., radiotherapy facilities in hospitals).

This study analyses the vulnerability of the physical protection system (PPS) deployed at a hypothetical facility. The PPS is designed to prevent and eliminate threats to nuclear materials and facilities. The analysis considers possible outsider and insider threats. A modified adversary sequence diagram (ASD) evaluates threat pathways to test an insider-outsider collusion case. The ASD also measures the probability of adversary interruption by demonstrating the methodology for a typical nuclear facility.

Despite challenges, the nuclear security community continues to develop and apply appropriate levels of nuclear security where needed. The community also takes every opportunity to make significant contributions to the global discourse on nuclear security culture.

Two flexible food packaging barrier material film structures were employed for this research study to evaluate the effects of over-the-road truck transport. The films containing different barrier materials, ethylene-vinyl alcohol (EVOH) or aluminum oxide (AlOx), were selected based on their abundant use within the flexible food packaging arena. Pouches were formed and filled with tomato paste before being thermally processed then palletized for shipment. Pouches were shipped over-the-road via truck transport a distance of 2,500 miles. Lexical Link Analysis (LLA) is a form of text mining in which word meanings represented in lexical terms (e.g., word pairs) are treated as if they are in a community of a word network. Creativity is essential for solving problems in the workplace, natural environment, and everyday life, necessitating that creativity be nurtured in schools. Identification of factors that intrinsically motivate students to learn difficult or initially unappealing content is also important. This project, in which 24 racially diverse fifth grade girls created dioramas of the lives of diverse successful women mathematicians, explored the girls’ reactions to art integration into mathematics through a phenomenological qualitative analysis of their products, essays, and responses to questionnaires. This research paper explores art integration into a science lesson unit that follows the Next Generation Science Standards (K-PS2-1) and focuses on the effects on memory retention of key concepts along with levels of enjoyment. An experiment was conducted with children ages 3 and 4 teaching scientific concepts about gears while incorporating student-made art products. The children were assigned to alternating experimental (art-integrated) or control (no art) conditions during the four stages of the lesson. This study explores to what extent the SCAMPER (Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to another use, Eliminate, and Rearrange) technique combined with animal adaptation ideas learned through form and function analogy activities can help fourth graders generate creative ideas while augmenting their inventiveness. The sample consisted of 24 fourth grade students (14 female, 10 male) ages 9-10 at a suburban Midwestern elementary school. To address the Next Generation Science Standards engineering standards, students discussed the negative and positive aspects of wind and made daily weather observations (K-ESS2-1). Students constructed bird-shaped windsocks, called windbirds, to explore how the shape of the object allowed it to move in the wind (K-2-ETS1-2). The inclusion of activities to develop sensory awareness, spatial thinking, and physical dexterity, operationalized through hands-on science lessons such as water play, have long been part of early childhood education. This practical article addresses Next Generation Science Standards K-2 ETS1-3 and K-2 ETS1-2 by having four-year-old prekindergarten students direct the path of water on a vertical pegboard water table with strategically-placed, attached plastic cups with holes drilled into them that leak streams of water into each other. Few of the papers published in journals and conference proceedings on problem-based learning (PBL) are empirical studies, and most of these use self-report as the measure of PBL (Beddoes, Jesiek, & Borrego, 2010). The current study provides a theoretically derived matrix for coding and classifying PBL that was objectively applied to official curriculum documentation in a content analysis. The results for the level of problem-based learning in two engineering program curricula are presented. This report is the second in a series entitled Pilot Source Study 2015. Public Law 111-216 (Airline Safety and Federal Aviation Administration Extension Act of 2010) and the subsequent FAA regulation changed pilot hiring for US air carriers operating under 14 CFR Part 121. The Pilot Source Study 2015 was designed to determine the effect of Public Law 111-216 on US regional airlines after its effective date, August 1, 2013. Thermal decomposition of fish bones to obtain calcium oxide (CaO) was conducted at various temperatures of 400, 500, 800, 900, 1000, and 1100 °C. The calcium oxide was then characterized using X-ray diffractometer, FTIR spectrophotometer, and SEM analysis. The calcium oxide obtained from the decomposition at 1000 °C was then used as a catalyst in the production of biodiesel from waste cooking oil. Diffraction pattern of the calcium oxide produced from decomposition at 1000 °C showed a pattern similar to that of the calcium oxide produced by the Joint Committee on Powder Diffraction Standard (JCDPS). Effect Of Milling On The Densification Of Sic-Basedcomposites From Polysilazane, Alfian Noviyanto, Toshiyuki Nishimura

High density SiC-based composites from polysilazane were fabricated by high energy milling and hot pressing. After cross-linking at 200 °C, the polysilazane was pyrolysed at 1000 °C in N2 for 2 h to form amorphous Si-C-N-O followed by high energy milling for 1 h. Milled amorphous Si-C-N-O was sintered in hot pressing at 1600 and 1700 °C for 1 h in vacuum under the applied pressure of 50 MPa. Although no sintering additives were used, dense SiC-based composites were obtained with this method. Sintered density was 3.04 g/cm3, while only 2.57 g/cm3 for amorphous Si-C-N-O without milling.
