Model Parameter Identification For Rod And Cone Oscillatory Potentials, Kehur Banker

The use of signal modeling of the oscillatory potential (OP) of the electroretinogram (ERG), in the study of cone-rod interaction is investigated. ERG response data were analyzed for red, orange, blue and white flashes on no background and with red flashes on a blue background (to suppress rod responses). The OP signals were extracted from the ERG by digital bandpass filtering and a signal model was fitted through a simplex algorithm to produce the parameters including "OP envelope-amplitude", latency in terms of "center-time" of the OP-envelope and OP frequency. Recently, copper has been found as a possible substitute for Al alloys because of its low resistivity (1.67 μΩ • cm) and potentially improved resistance to electromigration. Conventional physical vapor deposition (PVD) method do not provide the conformal deposition profile for the high density integrated circuit, therefore, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) has become the most promising method for the resulting conformal profile.

In this work, a cold wall, single wafer, CVD tungsten reactor was used for the deposition of copper with Cu(I)(hfac)(tmvs). Film growth rates were between 100 to 800 A/min depending on processing conditions, and an Arrhenius type activation …

The aim of this research was to investigate velocity distribution within the water jet at different conditions of jet formation. The water jet (WJ) velocity was measured by the use of Laser Transit Anemometer (LTA) and statistical technique which improved the accuracy of the velocity determination.

The velocities were measured for different diameters of the sapphire nozzle under different water pressures at different axial stand off distances and radial distances across the jet. This study is focused on development of highly selective ceramic membrane structures consisting of silicon dioxide films synthesized by low pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) on mesoporous Vycor substrates. The ability of easily altering the composition of such films by varying the LPCVD processing parameters affords the opportunity of microengineering the pore structure by reducing the diameters of pre-existing pores in the support. The classical two dimensional theory of stability of parallel flow is extended to viscoelastic fluids. How the elasticity of the fluid affects the point of stability and determines the point of transition to turbulence is analyzed. In addition the magnification of disturbances is elucidated. This study is based on a viscoelastic constitutive equation which has been successful in predicting the experimental trends of various unsteady high shear rate laminar flows. The objective of this research was to geometrically analyze the characteristics of cells, specifically area and perimeter. The images were transferred from HP A900 system to an AVS work station. The images were visualized and manipulated by the AVS which permits the distinction between the cell body, fluorescent object, and background. The intrinsic geometry of the cell was determined by using image processing algorithms written in C. Design for Quality Manufacturability (DFQM) is a design tool that empowers engineers to create designs that are easily and effectively transformed into manufactured products. The goal of this methodology is to make designers aware of design characteristics that may lead to product defects during the assembly process. Acknowledging the possibility of these defects will enable the designer to institute design modifications early in the design phase. The trend towards digital and microprocessor based control of power electronic converters has increased the level of research into digital modulating techniques. This thesis examines the inherent digital nature of Binary Rate Modulation with particular attention concentrated on its suitability for dispatching power to three-phase loads. In this thesis, the design and fabrication of a silicon knife is described. The device design is based on the principle of oxidation sharpening.

The knife is made from a silicon wafer and can be made to be any chosen length up to 150 mm. It was made with the same basic procedures used in semiconductor chip manufacturing. This type of processing/manufacturing results in a knife with a high degree of sharpness and smoothness compared with existing knife technology.

An iterative technique was developed to solve the inverse kinematics problem for the joint rotations in both closed-loop and open-loop spatial mechanisms and robotic manipulators in any prescribed configuration. The method is based on fixing one link in space and maneuvering the other links to form a closed chain, following an approximation of the actual physical assembly of the mechanism.
