Project Scheduling Under Constrained Resources, Mohammed Benameur Oct 1980

Project Scheduling Under Constrained Resources, Mohammed Benameur

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This report examines the widely acceptable Heuristic and Exact procedures for solving the problem of project scheduling and control under constrained resources. Heuristic approaches are more practical, however they depend on the type of the project as well as the resources involved. Exact procedures are illustrated using an Integer Linear Programming formulation of the problem, and also solving it using the Branch and Bound Technique. Impracticality of the exact methods stews from the fact that the computations expand to an unmanageable amount.

The Application Of System Dynamics Techniques To War Game Modeling, G. Vincent Amico

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Military War Gaming has developed from the chess-like games to the elaborate computer simulations of today, using high-speed, general-purpose, digital computers. This Research Report will briefly review modern war-game developments with emphasis on real-time training systems. The application of system dynamics techniques developed by Jay W. Forrester to war-game modeling is explored. A simple destroyer versus submarine model is developed. Results indicate that the system dynamics modeling technique is a powerful and effective tool. However, the Dynamo language could be substantially improved by a more powerful logical statement capability.

The Design Of A Digital Data Acquisition System For Jet Engine Testing, Robert Wesley Carter Jan 1973

The Design Of A Digital Data Acquisition System For Jet Engine Testing, Robert Wesley Carter

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This research report documents the various types of Data Acquisition Systems in use for testing jet aircraft engines. The cost trade offs and design considerations are explored for systems which employ a digital computer as the prime recording/processing element. The digital computer has revolutionized the data acquisition field, particularly in the testing of high performance jet engines. Test data can be acquired, processed, converted to engineering units, and out via high speed line printers and cathode ray tubes (CRT's). The data acquisition system operates on-line, and interleaves the random requests for data from multiple test cells by using a specially …

A Survey Of Medical Diagnostic Software, Steven Stein Jan 1973

A Survey Of Medical Diagnostic Software, Steven Stein

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The field of medical diagnostic software is reviewed to define its status in the medical profession. This is accomplished in a two-step procedure. The first step is a cross-section of literature on the topic, and the second step is a survey of physicians in a sample area. The cross-section of literature presents some of the more advanced studies which have been conducted on medical diagnostic software. Also presented is an explanation of the logic used in diagnostic software and the results of several test cases. The survey was of physicians in the Orlando, Florida area to define the actual application …

Computer Method For Airport Noise Exposure Forecast, John Michael Bateman Jan 1972

Computer Method For Airport Noise Exposure Forecast, John Michael Bateman

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The major problem facing air transportation for the next decade is aircraft noise. The noise level due to the operation of large jet aircraft has created a very serious annoyance problem to the people living near of adjacent to jet airports. The noise problem has developed both for take-off and landing operations of these aircraft with take -off noise causing the greatest annoyance factor. A technique called Noise Exposure Forecast (NEF) has been developed to identify the annoyance factor of these noises to people and activities on the ground. With these NEF ratings or numbers, planners can better determine the …

Minimum Weight Design Of Stiffened Cylindrical Shells Using Structural Synthesis, Joseph Eugene Heckelbeck Jan 1972

Minimum Weight Design Of Stiffened Cylindrical Shells Using Structural Synthesis, Joseph Eugene Heckelbeck

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Several search methods for unconstrained minimization in the minimum weight design of a stiffened cylindrical shell are investigated. The cylindrical shell, under study, is stiffened with bar shaped stiffeners in the longitudinal and circumferential directions, and capable of being loaded both axially and radially with up to ten separate load conditions. For this investigation, it was necessary to alter an unconstrained minimization program for use on the IBM 360 computer by employing double precision techniques. The computer runs obtained on this system are compared with those provided by the prior work of William Morrow and Lucien Schmit. The results show, …
