Developing Optimization Techniques For Logistical Tendering Using Reverse Combinatorial Auctions, Jennifer Kiser Aug 2018

Developing Optimization Techniques For Logistical Tendering Using Reverse Combinatorial Auctions, Jennifer Kiser

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In business-to-business logistical sourcing events, companies regularly use a bidding process known as tendering in the procurement of transportation services from third-party providers. Usually in the form of an auction involving a single buyer and one or more sellers, the buyer must make decisions regarding with which suppliers to partner and how to distribute the transportation lanes and volume among its suppliers; this is equivalent to solving the optimization problem commonly referred to as the Winner Determination Problem. In order to take into account the complexities inherent to the procurement problem, such as considering a supplier’s network, economies of scope, …

Assessment And Optimization Of Environmental Systems Using Data Analysis And Simulation., Milad Ebrahimi May 2018

Assessment And Optimization Of Environmental Systems Using Data Analysis And Simulation., Milad Ebrahimi

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

For most environmental systems, specifically wastewater treatment plants and aquifers, a significant number of performance data variables are attained on a time series basis. Due to the interconnectedness of the variables, it is often difficult to assess over-arching trends and quantify temporal operational performance. The objective of this research study was to provide an effective means for comprehensive temporal evaluation of environmental systems. The proposed methodology used several multivariate data analyses and statistical techniques to present an assessment framework for the water quality monitoring programs as well as optimization of treatment plants and aquifer systems. The developed procedure considered the …

Multiobjective Reservoir Optimization Using Genetic Algorithm, Seyma Tiryakioglu Jan 2018

Multiobjective Reservoir Optimization Using Genetic Algorithm, Seyma Tiryakioglu

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis investigates the optimization of energy generation in a multipurpose reservoir. The objective functions and the constraints for the multiobjective optimization of reservoir operation for maximization of energy production involve the solution of a set of nonlinear equations governing pressure flow in penstock and turbine system and the hydropower generation. The hydropower generation also requires operational rules that define how the reservoir storage volume must be used at different storage levels. For these reasons, the present thesis uses genetic algorithm (GA) functions available in Matlab to perform the multiobjective optimization of hydropower energy production. Multiobjective optimization is based on …

Optimization Of Heat Sinks In A Range Of Configurations., Archibald Allswell Amoako Jan 2018

Optimization Of Heat Sinks In A Range Of Configurations., Archibald Allswell Amoako

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In this study, different heatsink geometries used for electronic cooling are studied and compared to each other to determine the most efficient. The goal is to optimize heat transfer of the heat sinks studied in a range of configuration based on fin geometry. Heat sinks are thermal conductive material devices designed to absorb and disperse heat from high-temperature objects (e.g. Computer CPU). Common materials used in the manufacturing of heat sinks are aluminum and copper due to their relatively high thermal conductivity and lightweight [1]. Aluminum is used as the material for the heatsinks studied in this research project. To …

Geometric Optimization Of A Heaving Point Absorber Wave Energy Converter, Ian Riley Jan 2018

Geometric Optimization Of A Heaving Point Absorber Wave Energy Converter, Ian Riley

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Wave energy shows significant potential for development into a competitive renewable energy source. Non-renewable resources are finite and contribute to adverse effects on the environment. Development of wave energy conversion devices that use heave motion as the primary driver for converting wave energy into electrical potential is explored through optimizing the geometry of an axisymmetric partially submerged buoy in deep water. The governing equations of motion and hydrodynamic forces are solved for in one degree of freedom using ANSYS Aqwa. An external PTO device is simulated to induce power capture in the system. Four different geometric shapes are tested and …
