Supporting Text And Data Analysis Across Campus From The Academic Library, Amy Kirchhoff, Hejin Shin Phd
Digital Initiatives Symposium
The ability to comprehend and communicate with text-based data is essential to future success in academics and employment, as evidenced in a recent survey from Bloomberg Research Services which shows that nearly 97% of survey respondents now use data analytics in their companies and 58% consider data and text mining a business analytics tool (https://www.sas.com/content/dam/SAS/bp_de/doc/studie/ba-st-the-current-state-of-business-analytics-2317022.pdf). This has fueled a substantial growth in text analysis research (involving the use of technology to analyze un- and semi-structured text data for valuable insights, trends, and patterns) across disciplines and a corresponding demand on academic libraries to support text analysis pedagogy and text analysis …
Mapping Renewal: How An Unexpected Interdisciplinary Collaboration Transformed A Digital Humanities Project, Elise Tanner, Geoffrey Joseph
Mapping Renewal: How An Unexpected Interdisciplinary Collaboration Transformed A Digital Humanities Project, Elise Tanner, Geoffrey Joseph
Digital Initiatives Symposium
Funded by a National Endowment for Humanities (NEH) Humanities Collections and Reference Resources Foundations Grant, the UA Little Rock Center for Arkansas History and Culture’s “Mapping Renewal” pilot project focused on creating access to and providing spatial context to archival materials related to racial segregation and urban renewal in the city of Little Rock, Arkansas, from 1954-1989. An unplanned interdisciplinary collaboration with the UA Little Rock Arkansas Economic Development Institute (AEDI) has proven to be an invaluable partnership. One team member from each department will demonstrate the Mapping Renewal website and discuss how the collaborative process has changed and shaped …
Developing And Implementing An Online Research Data Repository For Your University Or College Campus, Raymond J. Uzwyshyn
Developing And Implementing An Online Research Data Repository For Your University Or College Campus, Raymond J. Uzwyshyn
Digital Initiatives Symposium
Data-driven research is becoming increasingly important on university and college campuses. Most US federal and many international granting agencies mandatorily require that researchers applying for public grants possess a data management plan and make their research and data publically available through online access. This presentation overviews online research data repositories and implementation strategies for university and college campus libraries. The presentation pragmatically surveys this newer technology landscape and how organizations can begin to think about and implement an online data research repository. This session will survey the landscape but also makes use of practical example from Texas State University and …
