Construction Of A Mechanically Agitated Autoclave, Stephen A. O'Hare

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Since the beginning of World War II a great deal of investigation has been done on the tungsten deposits in the western United States. These deposits are principally composed of scheelite. The scheelite deposits in the western United States are low grade, and disseminated. With the development of nonmetallic flotation methods these vast deposits of scheelite-bearing ores have become a major source of tungsten for the United States, as the high grade ore deposits have become practically depleted.

The Formation Of Zinc Ferrite From Zinc Sulfate And Ferric Oxide, Robert E. Morris May 1955

The Formation Of Zinc Ferrite From Zinc Sulfate And Ferric Oxide, Robert E. Morris

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Samples of zinc sulfate and ferric oxide were roasted for periods of one, two and three hours at temperatures between 750° and 1000°C. The per cent zinc oxide combined, as zinc ferrite, was determined by dissolving the soluble zinc in a ammonium-ammonia chloride solution. Six samples were roasted at 750°C to determine the degree of decomposition of zinc sulfate to zinc oxide and sulfur trioxide.

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Correlation charts made from electric log data show the relationship of Ordovician and Silurian strata in eastern Montana. The Silurian sediments terminate westward in eastern Montana, but the Ordovician sediments are present westward into central Montana.

A Study Of Certain Ferromagnetic Alloys In The System Copper-Manganese-Gallium, Harold L. Coolidge May 1955

A Study Of Certain Ferromagnetic Alloys In The System Copper-Manganese-Gallium, Harold L. Coolidge

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Four alloys, with compositions near Cu2MnGa, were heat treated and magnetic measurements were obtained on a ferromagnetic torsion balance. The specimens were also examined microscopically to observe the structure.

The Venturi-Mucker, Don A. Rohrenbach May 1955

The Venturi-Mucker, Don A. Rohrenbach

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Shaft sinking has been and still is one of the biggest bottlenecks in any mining operation. Consequently, the shaft is by far the most expensive and time-consuming excavation of any development program. When the shaft-sinking problem is broken up into its components, it is found that shaft mucking represents the largest fraction, both costwise and timewise. Since the mucking operation is the most important part of shaft sinking, it is, then, the most logical place for the introduction of cheaper methods.

Surface Reactivity Of Aliphatic Nitriles On Chalcopyrite And Sphalerite, Gary Mitton May 1955

Surface Reactivity Of Aliphatic Nitriles On Chalcopyrite And Sphalerite, Gary Mitton

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

This thesis reports an investigation concerning the adsorption of aliphatic nitriles by chalcopyrite, activated sphalerite, and unactivated sphalerite. The experimental evidence suggests that abstraction, chelation and re-adsorption may take place. On the basis of the experimental results, an equilibrium-type adsorption hypothesis is proposed.

Paragenesis Of The Primary Ores Of The Norwich Mine, Edward E. Scheitlin May 1955

Paragenesis Of The Primary Ores Of The Norwich Mine, Edward E. Scheitlin

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The Norwich vein is thought to belong to the Anaconda vein system. It contains fairly large deposits of manganese. The study of 19 thin sections and 15 polished sections was made to determine the paragenesis of the vein minerals, which is: quartz-pyrite, rhodochrosite, quartz, minor rhodochrosite, quartz-pyrite-sphalerite, galena, freibergite and later quartz. Some supergene rhodochrosite was found and most of the silver minerals were found to be supergene origin.

Hydraulic Shaft Mucker, Frederick D. Owsley May 1955

Hydraulic Shaft Mucker, Frederick D. Owsley

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Until recent years, mining has depended upon the muscles of men to supply the power required to obtain ore. With the rising cost of labor and the increased demand for metals, mine management has turned to machines to meet these demands. With the coming of the machines, the mechanization of mining began, and a new era in mining developed. Great strides have been made in drilling, hoisting, haulage, etc; but the sinking of shafts still create a costly operation.

Drilling And Drilling Trends In The United States For Mining, Sidney D. Cooper May 1955

Drilling And Drilling Trends In The United States For Mining, Sidney D. Cooper

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

This thesis, which is a requirement for a degree in Mining Engineering, emphasizes many current drills and drilling trends; however, without a complete discussion of the numerous factors that effect drills and drilling the reader would still be at a loss in selecting a drill to fit his particular need. With this purpose in mind, I have first attempted to discuss the many variables which must be considered and this is followed by the various types of drilling and drills.

Prospecting For Uranium In Montana, Louis Karhi May 1955

Prospecting For Uranium In Montana, Louis Karhi

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Atomic Energy Commission releases reports of investigations such as RMO, RME, TEI and TEM reports, etc., also releases airborne anomaly maps. Various libraries and A.E.C. offices have these reports on file. The Montana School of Mines library has maps, various reports on the mineral industry, and receives reports prepared by or for the Division of Raw Materials of the A.E.C. Certain other libraries are designated as official U.S. Atomic Energy Commission Depository Libraries and receive copies of all types of unclassified reports.

Geology Of A Portion Of The Hand Mine, Argenta Mining District, Beaverhead County, Montana, John Thomas Richards May 1955

Geology Of A Portion Of The Hand Mine, Argenta Mining District, Beaverhead County, Montana, John Thomas Richards

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The Hand Mine is located in the Argenta Mining District near the town of Argenta. The area surrounding the Hand Mine is characterized by intense thrusting, folding, and igneous activity. The area mapped by the author is in the southeast portion of the mine and differs from the rest of the mine in that no commercial ore has been found. The writer concludes that the steep faulting and flatlying bodies are of two different ages, and that intense oxidation has altered the ore minerals to plumbojarosite.

Oxidized Copper Mineralization Along The Continental Fault Near Butte, Montana, Theodore H. Eyde May 1955

Oxidized Copper Mineralization Along The Continental Fault Near Butte, Montana, Theodore H. Eyde

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Located in the fault zone of the Continental fault near the western edge of Boulder batholith of southwestern Montana the oxidized copper deposits are developed by three open pit mines, one of which is a presently in operation. Copper has been deposited by descending cold solutions which have leached copper from the surrounding quartz monzonite and deposited within the crushed fault zone. Local high grade 'bunches' of ore occur along narrow limonite veins, remnants of primary sulfide veins which have been enriched by the descending cold solutions.
