A Proposal For Two Computers Dealing With The Convolution Integral, Charles S. Williams Jr. Aug 1955

A Proposal For Two Computers Dealing With The Convolution Integral, Charles S. Williams Jr.

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

The integral f(x) = g(x-y)h(Y)dy is known as a convolution integral. The first computer described herein will determine the function f when the functions g and h are known. The second computer will determine the function h when f and g are known; in using the second computer to find h, then the first computer is used for auxiliary computations.

Viscosity Of Non-Newtonian Suspensions, David Edward Gullett, Edward Curtis May 1955

Viscosity Of Non-Newtonian Suspensions, David Edward Gullett, Edward Curtis

Theses

The object of this project ras to obtain a reasonable correlation of the effect of velocity, concentration and particle size on apparent viscosity of non-Newtonian slurries.

Through the use of dimensional and graphical analysis an equation, μ/μw=1.02(Ak/GC).105, was developed which filled these conditions. The average deviation of the apparent viscosity calculated from this equation compared to the experimental value was 14.4%.

The authors believe that this correlation should be tested under a greater variety of conditions of particle size and particle thermal conductivity and for suspending mediums other than water.

A Study Of The Brittle Model Method Of Stress Analysis As Applied To Solid Circular Grooved Shafts Tested In Torsion, George V. Lemmon May 1955

A Study Of The Brittle Model Method Of Stress Analysis As Applied To Solid Circular Grooved Shafts Tested In Torsion, George V. Lemmon

Mechanical Engineering ETDs

It is the purpose of this study to (1) determine the applicability of the brittle model method of stress analysis to samples subjected to various stress raisers when tested in torsion and (2) to investigate the effects of grooved stress raisers in solid cylindrical members in tested torsion.

A Shock Tube For Transonic And Supersonic Aerodynamic Research, John Hopkins Atkinson May 1955

A Shock Tube For Transonic And Supersonic Aerodynamic Research, John Hopkins Atkinson

Mechanical Engineering ETDs

The purpose of building a shock tube was to give the University another research tool and demonstration instrument for aerodynamic studies since the present wind tunnel is not suitable for high velocity research. It was hoped that the shock tube might, when calibrated against theoretical flow data, prove suitable as a test facility. Te determine its usefulness as such a facility it was necessary to devise a method for measuring local velocities, investigate size effects of models in the flow and provide a check against standard wind tunnel data. The shock tube was to be built as simply and cheaply ...

A Study Of Servomechanism Damping Methods, Arthur J. Clark Jr. May 1955

A Study Of Servomechanism Damping Methods, Arthur J. Clark Jr.

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

The purpose of this study is first to present a review of the general effects of damping, both Coulomb and Viscous, and feedback devices resulting in error rate damping: second to present detailed mathematical analyses of a number of special damping devices that may be used to advantage in servomechanism design.

A Comparison Of Over Snow Vehicles Produced At Utah State Agricultural College, Ross W. Eskelson May 1955

A Comparison Of Over Snow Vehicles Produced At Utah State Agricultural College, Ross W. Eskelson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Travel over snow by vehicle in Arctic and mountainous terrain is one of the most difficult problems of our Armed Forces and other public and private agencies. agencies whose services demand over-snow travel find little or no adequate means of transport. Those vehicles which are available, are either economically infeasible in construction and operating costs, or have serious operational limitations.

A great amount of research has been done, but as yet, no vehicle has been produced to successfully meet the varied problems of over-snow transportation.

The Utah State Agricultural College, and its affiliated organization, the Utah Scientific Research Foundation, in ...

Evaluation Of Sprinkler Systems In Northern Utah, Murray J. Gavel May 1955

Evaluation Of Sprinkler Systems In Northern Utah, Murray J. Gavel

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Sprinkling as a method of irrigation has been expanding rapidly in the United States, with acreages irrigated by this method increasing every year. One of the major reasons for the expansion is the great improvements that have been made in sprinkler irrigation equipment. Lightweight aluminum pipe, with quick couplers, improved pump and motor efficiencies have all made sprinkler irrigation more desirable. High efficiency of water application, labor requirements, and favorable plant response have also favored the expansion.

A Variational Approach To The Calculation Of Electron Trajectories, Edmund G. Franzak Feb 1955

A Variational Approach To The Calculation Of Electron Trajectories, Edmund G. Franzak

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

It is the object of the present work to derive, develop, and illustrate a method for the calculation of electron trajectories based on variational techniques and employing scalar and vector potential functions instead of the customary intensity functions. The methods of the calculus of variations furnish an extremely basic approach to the problem while lending an undeniable air of rigor and mathematical elegance.

Solution of the problem will be accomplished by first setting forth a mathematical structure upon which the work will be based, next outlining the physical principles governing the problem and finally applying the mathematical theory and physical ...
