Numerical Modeling Of Concrete Masonry Walls Strengthened By Fiber Reinforced Polymers Under Lateral Loads, Mohamed Salama Jul 2006

Numerical Modeling Of Concrete Masonry Walls Strengthened By Fiber Reinforced Polymers Under Lateral Loads, Mohamed Salama

Archived Theses and Dissertations

The use of fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) for the seismic retrofit of masonry walls is on the rise. Design formulae are available to estimate the lateral load capacity of the strengthened walls. However, recent experimental data from tests conducted on full scale concrete masonry walls under cyclic lateral loads have shown that these design capacities have not been reached because of the occurrence of other failure modes not accounted for in the design formulae. The limiting failure mode in all test samples referred to in this work was due to premature compression failure of the masonry units at the wall …

Numerical Modeling Of Infill Rc Walls In Seismic Retrofit Of Rc Frames, Mohamed Mohamed Slah El-Din Darwish Jun 2006

Numerical Modeling Of Infill Rc Walls In Seismic Retrofit Of Rc Frames, Mohamed Mohamed Slah El-Din Darwish

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Columns designed and built according to older standards may be subject to damage due to seismic loading during earthquakes as a result of the lack of shear reinforcement and/or insufficient lap-splice length. An experimental program on the use of ifill RC walls in seismic retrofit of RC frames under cyclic loading was conducted in 2002. The output of this experimental work formed the basis for the validation of a numerical finite element model, in predicting forces and displacements. Subsequently the finite element model was used to perform a parametric analysis on the effects of the thickness, overall reinforcement and concrete …

Lock-Based Cache Coherence Protocol For Chip Multiprocessors, Ihab Ismail Jun 2006

Lock-Based Cache Coherence Protocol For Chip Multiprocessors, Ihab Ismail

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Chip multiprocessor (CMP) is replacing the superscalar processor due to its huge performance gains in terms of processor speed, scalability, power consumption and economical design. Since the CMP consists of multiple processor cores on a single chip usually with share cache resources, process synchronization is an important issue that needs to be dealt with. Synchronization is usually done by the operating system in case of shared memory multiprocessors (SMP). This work studies the effect of performing synchronization by the hardware through its integration with the cache coherence protocol. A novel cache coherence protocol, called Lock-based Cache Coherence Protocol (LCCP) was …

User Friendly Computer Software For Construction Projects Delay Analysis, Kamel Ahmed Salem El Sayed

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Construction industry around the world is facing a huge revolution in terms of number of executed projects. Projects are no longer simple ones managed by few persons. Commercial buildings, high rise towers and bridges are being built everywhere. The majority of these projects are complex ones that face a lot of obstacles. Delays are one of the major obstacles that construction projects face and are very likely to occur. Generally, claims are the result of any delay in the construction progress. To be able to analyze the claim and assign the responsibility, the analyst has to perform a delay analysis. …

An Expert System For Experimental Designs Selection, Safa Fouad Khater

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Design of Experiment (DOE) plays a significant role in designing and analyzing experiments to achieve valid and objective conclusions in the field of process/product development and improvement. Many experimental design alternatives are available, and making the proper choice may require knowledge that is beyond the capabilities of many researchers. Making the wrong experimental design may result in waste of resources and time, and invalid conclusions may be drawn.

An Ontological Approach For Building A Pattern Language And A Pattern Language Management Tool, Reaham Osama Badr Feb 2006

An Ontological Approach For Building A Pattern Language And A Pattern Language Management Tool, Reaham Osama Badr

Archived Theses and Dissertations

The Study of patterns and pattern inter relationships has become a recent issue tackled by many researchers. Although not many pattern languages exist yet, the importance of their existence is clearly noted. Authors argue that connecting related patterns using the relationships existing between them, gives them an additional value over individual patterns.

The main issues faced when dealing with pattern languages is how to build these languages and how to mange them afterwards. In this research work, an ontological approach is used to present a methodology for building a pattern language. This methodology is presented in the form of a …

Reputed Authenticated Routing For Ad Hoc Networks Protocol (Reputed-Aran), Abdalla Ahmed Fekry Mahmoud Feb 2006

Reputed Authenticated Routing For Ad Hoc Networks Protocol (Reputed-Aran), Abdalla Ahmed Fekry Mahmoud

Archived Theses and Dissertations

A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a spontaneous network that can be established with no fixed infrastructure. This means that all its nodes behave as routers and take part in its discovery and maintenance of routes to other nodes in the network. Its routing protocol has to be able to cope with the new challenges that a MANET creates such as nodes mobility, security maintenance, quality of service, limited bandwidth and limited power supply. These challenges set new demands on MANET routing protocols. With the increasing interest in MANETs, there has been a greater focus on the subject of …

Behavior Of Filament Winding Fiber Reinforced Polymer Structural Members, Mohamed Soliman Samy Aguib Feb 2006

Behavior Of Filament Winding Fiber Reinforced Polymer Structural Members, Mohamed Soliman Samy Aguib

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Fiber-reinforced polymeric (FRP) composites are being considered for structural members in construction as lighter, more durable alternatives to steel and concrete. Unlike steel and similar isotropic materials where mechanical properties are independent of the applied load directions composites are anisotropic materials by nature. Pultredud FRP structural members that are considered unidirectional members are subjected to premature failure due to discontinuity of fiber in the transverse and through the thickness of the members in a shape of delamination failure. Proposed box-section structural member by utilizing filament-winding process using· woven roving mats instead of roving strands to reorganize the fibers in produced …
