One of the most important Internet of Things applications is the wireless body sensor network (WBSN), which can provide universal health care, disease prevention, and control. Due to large deployments of small scale smart sensors in WBSNs, security, and privacy guarantees (e.g., security and safety-critical data, sensitive private information) are becoming a challenging issue because these sensor nodes communicate using an open channel, i.e., Internet. WiFi Gate Guard aims to improve the user experience for authentication on home wireless networks, by alleviating some of the hardships causes by passwords and by offering a platform on which further security enhancements could be built. It accomplishes this by using captive portal technology, making it extremely easy for guests to authenticate without needing to ask for a password. In electronics, resonance occurs when the admittances of circuit components, the imaginary parts of the component impedances, cancel each other out. Operation of circuits at their resonant frequencies can cause oscillation of signals at extreme levels. Nikola Tesla developed the concept of harnessing the capabilities of resonance by transmitting energy wirelessly between two inductively resonant coils. In 1897, his newly patented design, known as the Tesla coil, was an early prototype used to realize his theory. Electric vehicles represent a major accomplishment in the energy and transportation industry. Unfortunately, they are restricted to a small travel range because of limited battery life. Successful integration of wireless power transfer (WPT) systems into the infrastructure would remove the range restrictions of EVs. To successfully integrate this technology, several requirements must be met. First, the embedment process cannot interfere with the electrical performance of the inductive power transfer (IPT) system. Second, the presence of the IPT system in the pavement structure cannot negatively affect the roadway’s lifespan.

A radome-enclosed extremely wideband cylindrical dipole antenna for wireless communications applications was proposed with a simple structure. The antenna is fed at the center with the help of a coaxial cable through the lower hollow metallic pole. The feed area is composed of cones at both sides in order to obtain wideband impedance matching. The proposed antenna can cover 1.8 GHz to 28 GHz with S11 of less than -10 dB and excellent stable omnidirectional radiation characteristics. The ability to measure impacts on the head is imperative to monitor brain injury and prevent serious TBI. Recent research by the Purdue Neurotrauma Group (PNG) indicates that accumulation of subconcussive impacts may cause permanent neurological damage. Currently available commercial impact monitoring systems are designed as an event-based models which collect impact data above pre-determined acceleration thresholds. The purpose of Pinpoint was to create a device that can collect and transmit location information for multiple users on a wireless network. The device would be used to keep track of and communicate with other users nearby. The Titan Camera Control System is an eletromechanical device that allows the user to wirelessly control a camera’s digital operations as well as physical orientation through the use of a mobile device application. In this paper, we investigate antenna selection strategies for MIMO-OFDM wireless systems from an energy efficiency perspective. We first derive closed-form expressions of the energy efficiency and the energy efficiency- spectral efficiency (EE-SE) trade-off in conventional antenna selection MIMO-OFDM systems. The obtained results show that these systems suffer from a significant loss in energy efficiency. To achieve a better energy-efficiency performance, we propose an adaptive antenna selection method where both the number of active RF (radio frequency) chains and the antenna indices are selected depending on the channel condition. Magnetoelastic sensors represent a low-cost wireless and battery-less method for monitoring parameters in embedded or implanted applications; however, some limitations still exist preventing their commercial implementation. Presented in this work are a variety of studies that are aimed at improving the feasibility of magnetoelastic materials for sensing and actuating applications. Magnetoelastic resonant sensors of non-standard geometries were investigated to determine if geometry could play a role on the sensitivity of the sensor response to mass loading. This dissertation is devoted to developing multiple access interference (MAI) reduction techniques for multi-carrier multi-user wireless communication networks.
In multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) systems, a full multipath diversity can be achieved by transmitting one symbol over multiple orthogonal subcarriers by means of spreading codes. However, in frequency selective fading channels, orthogonality among users can be destroyed leading to MAI. MAI represents the main obstacle to support large number of users in multi-user wireless systems. Motorcyclists are at a disadvantage when it comes to their visibility on the road due to their size and location of lighting indicators. Because of this, motorcyclists are 82% more likely to be in an accident than other automobiles.
