Compositional Engineering Of Precursor Inks For Intense Pulsed Light Compatible Deposition Of Perovskite Solar Cells., Blake Martin
Compositional Engineering Of Precursor Inks For Intense Pulsed Light Compatible Deposition Of Perovskite Solar Cells., Blake Martin
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Perovskite solar cell (PSC) technology offers a promising alternative to silicon-based photovoltaics (PVs), but challenges of stability, module efficiency, and scalability hinder commercialization. This study aims to explore potential solutions to overcome scalability and cost limitations of PSCs, addressing technical barriers to commercialization. We adapt the conventional three-stage perovskite deposition process (deposition, translational phase formation, and annealing) for scalable platforms using wide-area depositions, meniscus coating methods, forced laminar airflow drying, and radiative annealing methods, making it more suitable for roll-to-roll fabrication. A technoeconomic analysis shows that large-scale operations can produce solar films at a cost of $0.04-$0.10 per watt, making …
Nonlinear Control And Observation Of Full-Variable Speed Wind Turbine Systems., Nicholas Hawkins
Nonlinear Control And Observation Of Full-Variable Speed Wind Turbine Systems., Nicholas Hawkins
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
With increasing concern for the environmental effects of power generation from fossil fuels, wind energy is a competitive source for electrical power with higher efficiency than other clean sources. However, the nature of this power source makes controlling wind turbines difficult. The variability of wind as a source either requires highly accurate measurement equipment or sophisticated mathematical alternatives. In addition to the unknown quantities of the weather itself, the efficiency of power capture at the turbine blades is highly nonlinear in nature and difficult to ascertain. The ability of either determine these troublesome quantities, or control the system despite ignorance …

Development And Degradation Analysis Of Novel Micro And Nanostructured Transition Metal Oxide (Tmo) Anodes For Aqueous Sodium Ion Batteries., Santanu Mukherjee
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
One of the primary motivations driving battery technology research is the need to develop cleaner and more efficient energy storage systems. The portable electronics industry has developed exponentially, especially over the last couple of decades and therefore the importance of efficient electrochemical energy storage systems cannot be overstated. Li-ion batteries have been the predominant rechargeable energy in use, however, they have their own particular drawbacks viz. flammability of the electrolyte, expensive mining of the Li metal etc. This is where the importance of Na-ion batteries lie. This research focuses on using existing transition metal oxides (TMOs) and tuning their crystal …
Novel Iii-V Alloys For Unassisted Water Splitting., Alejandro Martinez-Garcia
Novel Iii-V Alloys For Unassisted Water Splitting., Alejandro Martinez-Garcia
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Direct conversion of solar energy to fuels by photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting has been identified as a promising route for sustainable power generation and storage. However, semiconductor materials with suitable opto-electronic properties have yet to be identified. In this dissertation, band gap engineering of III-V alloys, tuning the light sensitivity of GaP and GaN nitride through alloying Sb, is investigated for developing new semiconductor alloys with appropriate opto-electronic properties and their performance with overall water photoelectrolysis. In addition to III-V materials, copper oxide (Cu2O) electrode was investigated for p-type semiconductor material. The new III-V alloy anodes were studied …
Vanadium Trichloride Thermochemical Solar Energy Storage System Analysis., Caleb Michael Rogers
Vanadium Trichloride Thermochemical Solar Energy Storage System Analysis., Caleb Michael Rogers
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
As annual energy consumption grows, developing renewable solar energy conversion systems, storage systems, and high density electrical energy production systems is growing increasingly important. The proposed system utilizes vanadium trichloride thermal decomposition to produce chlorine gas and vanadium dichloride. A second reaction combines gaseous hydrogen chloride and the product vanadium dichloride to reform vanadium trichloride and produce hydrogen gas. Hydrogen gas and chlorine gas can be stored indefinitely and electrical energy is obtained from the chemicals by a non-humidified dry membrane hydrogen – chlorine fuel cell. The fuel cell produces the gaseous hydrogen chloride needed to reform vanadium trichloride. The …
