Achieving Operational Seismic Performance Of Rc Bridge Bents Retrofitted With Buckling-Restrained Braces, Ramiro Andrés Gabriel Bazáez Gallardo
Dissertations and Theses
Typical reinforced concrete (RC) bridges built prior to 1970 were designed with minimum seismic consideration, leaving numerous bridges highly susceptible to damage following an earthquake. In order to improve the seismic behavior of substandard RC bridges, this study presents the seismic performance of reinforced concrete bridge bents retrofitted and repaired using Buckling-Restrained Braces (BRBs) while considering subduction zone earthquake demands. In order to reflect displacement demands from subduction ground motions, research studies were conducted to develop quasi-static loading protocols and then investigate their effect on structural bridge damage. Results suggested that subduction loading protocols may reduce the displacement ductility capacity …
Comparison Of The Dynamic Behavior Of Composite Plates And Shells Incorporating Green's Strain Terms With The Von Karman And Donnell Models, Arthur E. Forral
Comparison Of The Dynamic Behavior Of Composite Plates And Shells Incorporating Green's Strain Terms With The Von Karman And Donnell Models, Arthur E. Forral
Theses and Dissertations
The dynamic collapse behavior of thin, composite cylindrical shells subjected to transverse point loads is considered. The dynamic behavior of the undamped cylindrical shells of varying radii is analyzed with a finite element formulation that incorporates all nonlinear Green's strain terms in the in-plane directions; transverse strains are linear and vary parabolically through the shell thickness. This formulation is denoted as the simplified large displacement/rotation (SLR) theory. Graphical representations are used extensively to examine dynamic behaviors not noted in similar research that utilized the DSHELL finite element code. Composite plate behavior is also explored. Comparison of the higher-order formulations to …
Experimental Determination Of Post-Buckling Performance Of Steel Angles, Rupasiri Purasinghe
Experimental Determination Of Post-Buckling Performance Of Steel Angles, Rupasiri Purasinghe
Dissertations and Theses
An experimental testing program was conducted to determine the compression member performance in post-buckling region. These results are compared with an analytical computer program developed by Portland State University under Bonneville Power Administration Contract 79-80BP 24005. The paper presents the sensitivity of the performance of single angle compression members to various parameters such as length to radius of gyration ratio, eccentricity, end conditions and yield stress. The effect of local buckling on long member performance is also documented.
