This paper is concerned with the low-cost iterative equalization/detection principles for coded linear systems with cyclic prefixes. Turbo frequency-domain-equalization (FDE) is applied to systems that may contain the joint effect of multiple-access interference (MAI), cross-antenna interference (CAI) and inter-symbol interference (ISI). We develop an SNK-variance evolution technique for the performance evaluation of the proposed systems. Numerical results in various channel environments demonstrate excellent agreement between the predicted and simulated system performance. © 2008 IEEE.

This paper is concerned with coded multi-ary systems over linear channels. Based on a semi-analytical evolution technique, the impact of signaling schemes on the performance of low-cost iterative linear minimum-mean-square-error (LMMSE) detection is studied. It is shown that superposition coded modulation (SCM) maximizes the output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of LMMSE detectors. Consequently, SCM may potentially outperform other conventional signaling schemes when LMMSE detectors are used. Numerical examples are provided to verify the theoretical analysis. © 2008 IEEE.

The acting force on the roll system of Sendzimir mill was analyzed using 3D FEM. The "discriminative direction" has been proven useful to re- veal the subtle difference between two anatomical shape classes. When a shape moves along this direction, its deformation will best manifest the class difference detected by a kernel classifier. However, we observe that such a direction cannot maintain a shape's "anatomical" correctness, in- troducing spurious difference. To overcome this drawback, we develop a regularized discriminative direction by requiring a shape to conform to its population distribution when it deforms along the discriminative direction. This paper is concerned with orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing interleave-division multiple-access (OFDM-IDMA) systems over frequency-selective fading channels. Deliberate clipping is applied to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of each user's transmitted signal. An iterative multiuser detection (MUD) technique is developed to recover the performance loss due to clipping. A semi-analytical signal-to- noise ratio (SNR) evolution technique is proposed, which can provide quick and accurate prediction of the iterative MUD performance. Numerical results show that the performance of OFDM-IDMA is not sensitive to the frequency selectivity of channels, and OFDM-IDMA is more power-efficient than other alternative multi-carrier transmission techniques. © 2008 …

In this paper, we analyze the security vulnerabilities of two ultra-lightweight RFID mutual authentication protocols: LMAP and M2AP, which are recently proposed by Peris-Lopez et al.We identify two e®ective attacks, namely De-synchronization attack and Full-disclosure attack, against their protocols. The former attack can break the synchro- nization between the RFID reader and the tag in a single protocol run so that they can not authenticate each other in any following protocol runs. This paper is concerned with the iterative detection principles for coded linear systems with cyclic prefixes. We derive a matrix-form low-cost fast Fourier transform (FFT) based iterative LMMSE-APP detector and propose an evolution technique for the performance evaluation of the proposed detector. The latest lower-limb prosthetic designs have been incorporated with dynamic elastic response (DER) components to enhance prosthesis flexibility, which are suggested to be beneficial to gait. Three passes of plate rolling during vertical-horizontal rolling process are simulated with explicit dynamic finite element method and updating geometric method. The equivalent strain and stress fields, and shape change at the head and tail of slab during rolling are obtained. The calculated result of the shape at the head and tail of slab is in good agreement with the measured one. The explicit dynamic finite element method and updating geometric method can be used effectively to analyze the multipass vertical-horizontal (V-H) rolling process. © 2006 Central Iron and Steel Research Institute.

Penalized splines can be viewed as BLUPs in a mixed model framework, which allows the use of mixed model software for smoothing. Thus, software originally developed for Bayesian analysis of mixed models can be used for penalized spline regression. Bayesian inference for nonparametric models enjoys the flexibility of nonparametric models and the exact inference provided by the Bayesian inferential machinery. This paper provides a simple, yet comprehensive, set of programs for the implementation of nonparametric Bayesian analysis in WinBUGS. Monolimb refers to a kind of transtibial prostheses having the socket and shank molded into one piece of thermoplastic material. One of its characteristics is that the shank is made of a material that can deform during walking, which can simulate ankle joint motion to some extent. Genomic DNAs prepared from 168 isolates of Escherichia coli 0157:H7 were analyzed for restriction fragment length polymorphisms on Southern blots probed with bacteriophage A DNA. The isolates analyzed included strains from a recent large multistate outbreak of E. coli 0157:H7 infection associated with consumption of poorly cooked beef in restaurants, a day-care center cluster, and temporally and geographically unrelated isolates. E. coli 0157:H7 isolates recovered from the incriminated meat and from 61 (96.8%) of 63 patients from Washington and Nevada possessed identical A restriction fragment length patterns. The use of statistical pattern recognition techniques in image processing has led to simplifying assumptions on the statistical interdependence of the pixel value of an image, which allow theoretical analysis and/or computational implementation to be achieved. For instance, the assumption of statistical independence of the values or that their joint distributions are multivariate normal, simplifies the analysis enormously. A simulation study was conducted to determine the relative response to selection of a one-dimensional spatial analysis of field experiments (SAFE) specifically adapted for early generation trials. The primary purpose of the analysis in these trials is to obtain accurate estimates of genotypic effects of the unreplicated test lines by adjusting for local variation, using either the yields of all neighbouring plots or the yields of neighbouring plots of (replicated) check varieties. Use of a one-dimensional neighbour method of analysis in 1019 variety trials of a range of crops conducted by plant breeders in four states of Australia in 1985–87 resulted in an average reduction of 42% in variances of varietal yield differences compared with conventional randomized complete block analysis. Of these trials, 219 were designed as square, rectangular or generalized lattices and the average reduction in variances of varietal yields with incomplete block analysis and recovery of interblock information was 33%.
