Hardware Trojans are one of the serious threats with detrimental, irreparable effects on the functionality, security, and performance of digital integrated circuits. It is difficult to detect Trojans because of their diversity in size and performance. While the majority of current methods focus on Trojan detection during chip testing, run-time techniques can be employed to gain unique advantages. This paper proposes a method based on the online scalable detection technique, which eliminates the need for a reference chip. Involving local detectors, this technique assesses the variations in the logical values of each node to find out whether there are Trojans. …

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

A mobile wireless sensor network (MWSN) consists of many sensor nodes, which can move from one position to another and gather data from the environment, and such nodes are coordinated with the support of a sink node. In recent years, the mobility behavior of sensor nodes present in wireless sensor networks is used to form effective clustering and to perform cluster-based routing. Virtual force is an important phenomenon in sensor nodes, which is used to model the mobility behavior. Production rules that use spatiotemporal constraints are able to make more accurate decisions on mobility speed, mobility area, and the required …

Frequency Equivalent Circuits For The On And Off State Of An Optically Triggered Switch Based On A Pin Photodiode, Ivan Olaf Hernandez-Fuentes, Carlos Villa-Angulo, Jose Manuel Ramirez-Zarate, Raul Rascon-Carmona, Rosa Citalli Anguiano-Cota

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this work we have developed equivalent circuit models for the frequency response of an optically triggered switch based on a positive-intrinsic-negative photodiode (PIN-PD) for the On state (light applied to the PIN-PD) and the Off state (without applying light to the PIN-PD). From measurements it was found the frequency response in Off state behaves as a high-pass filter whereas in the On state as a low-pass filter; this means that depending on the input signal frequency there could be an approach or even an overlap between the output amplitude in the On and in the Off state. The developed …

Adaptive Collaborative Speed Control Of Pmdc Motor Using Hyperbolic Secant Functions And Particle Swarm Optimization, Omer Saleem, Khalid Mahmood-Ul-Hasan

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper presents an adaptive collaborative speed controller for a permanent magnet direct-current (PMDC) motor. The proposed scheme beneficially combines the control efforts of a proportional-integral (PI) controller and a linear-quadratic regulator (LQR) via a weighted summing module. Initially, the weightages of the summing module are kept fixed. They are optimally tuned and tested via the particle swarm optimization algorithm. In order to synergize the controller combination, these weightages are adaptively modulated as well, using hyperbolic secant functions of the error dynamics of the motor's angular speed. The adaptive combination renders significant enhancement in the transient response, steady-state response, input-energy …

A Model Of Qos Differentiation Burst Assembly With Padding For Improving The Performance Of Obs Networks, Viet Minh Nhat Vo, Van Hoa Le, Hoang Son Nguyen, Manh Thanh Le

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Burst assembly is an operation at the ingress node of optical burst switching (OBS) networks that aggregates incoming packets from various access networks into larger carriers, called bursts. Depending on the density of incoming packets and the preset time or length thresholds, the completed bursts may have various lengths, but they must be at least equal to a minimum value ($B_{\min})$ to facilitate the switching in existing physical optical switches. If a completed burst is smaller than $B_{\min}$, it should be padded by padded bytes and it results in bandwidth utilization inefficiency. One solution to the problem is increasing the …

Optimal Coordination Of Overcurrent Protection In The Presence Of Sfcl And Distributed Generation, Saeed Asgharigovar, Heresh Seyedi, Shahram Parchehbaf Dibazari

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

As power demand is increased, power generation and especially distributed generation (DG) are being developed. Therefore, power distribution systems become increasingly complicated and short circuit level in distribution grids is being augmented. Thereby, installation of a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) is a logical solution to decrease the fault current level in a distribution network. Preventing distribution system degradation by high fault currents, lower equipment ratings, and economic issues are the advantages of SFCL in distribution grids. However, SFCL installation causes delayed operation of the existing overcurrent protection and requires recoordination of the relays. In addition, disconnecting the SFCL from …

Modified Acceleration Feedback For Practical Disturbance Rejection In Motor Drives, Ahmet Gürhanli Jan 2018

Modified Acceleration Feedback For Practical Disturbance Rejection In Motor Drives, Ahmet Gürhanli

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Acceleration feedback techniques have been used in control systems for a long time in order to improve the stiffness. Basically, the acceleration of the motor is calculated using speed or position measurements and the current command is adjusted using the acceleration data for avoiding deviations from the commanded speed. This method has to deal with two challenges. The first challenge is calculating the acceleration correctly. If it is calculated by double differentiation of position feedback of a servo motor, it may lead to a high amount of noise. On the other hand, if observer techniques are used, the error and …

Feature Selection Algorithm For No-Reference Image Quality Assessment Using Natural Scene Statistics, Imran Fareed Nizami, Muhammad Majid, Khawar Khurshid

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Images play an essential part in our daily lives and the performance of various imaging applications is dependent on the user?s quality of experience. No-reference image quality assessment (NR-IQA) has gained importance to assess the perceived quality, without using any prior information of the nondistorted version of the image. Different NR-IQA techniques that utilize natural scene statistics classify the distortion type based on groups of features and then these features are used for estimating the image quality score. However, every type of distortion has a different impact on certain sets of features. In this paper, a new feature selection algorithm …

Region Characteristics-Based Fusion Of Spatial And Transform Domain Image Denoising Methods, Rajiv Verma, Rajoo Pandey

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Nonlocal means (NLM)- and wavelet-based image denoising methods have drawn much attention in image processing due to their effectiveness and simplicity. The performance of these algorithms varies according to region characteristics in an image. For example, NLM performs well for smooth regions due to deployment of redundancy available in images, whereas wavelet-based approaches may preserve key image features by controlling the degree of threshold for shrinking the noisy coefficients. This paper presents a simple novel approach that estimates an original image by simply taking the weighted average of the denoised images pixel values obtained by NLM and wavelet thresholding schemes …

A Low-Complexity Rare-Based 2-D Doa Estimation Algorithm For A Mixture Of Circular And Strictly Noncircular Sources, Kashif Shabir, Tarek Hasan Al Mahmud, Rui Zheng, Zhongfu Ye

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

A new rank reduction (RARE)-based two-dimensional (2-D) direction of arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm is proposed considering a mixture of circular and strictly noncircular sources. To enhance array aperture, a geometry of three uniform linear arrays is considered and then treated as displaced arrays from a virtual array using a simple linear transformation. The received data and the conjugated counterpart are combined together, exploiting the noncircular property. Both sources can be estimated separately by designing and exploiting the distinctive nature of circular and noncircular steering vectors. However, a 2-D spectrum search would lead to a high computational complexity burden. To reduce …

Improved Transient Response Capacitor Less Low Dropout Regulator Employing Adaptive Bias And Bulk Modulation, Suresh Alapati, Sreehari Rao Patri

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper presents a low quiescent current, fast settling time, and adaptively biased capacitor less low-dropout (LDO) regulator. The topology involves a segmented pass transistor with bulk modulation and adaptively biased current control stages to improve the transient performance. The bulk modulation of the pass transistor assists in fast settling of the output voltage. The frequency compensation makes the LDO voltage regulator stable adaptively over load current transitions. In addition, the biasing stage is designed such that it adapts to the load transitions while consuming the quiescent current abstemiously. This arrangement further improves settling time to be within 1 µs …

A singular integral equation with additional conditions for correction current density is obtained. A solution for the infinite periodic grating in the E-polarization case is obtained from the corresponding solution for the H-polarization case using the duality principle. Numerical results for the current density and far fields distribution are …

Pattern Diversity Antenna For On-Body And Off-Body Wban Links, Sema Dumanli Jan 2018

Pattern Diversity Antenna For On-Body And Off-Body Wban Links, Sema Dumanli

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Maintaining the quality and the reliability of a wireless body area network (WBAN) has a variety of challenges, one of which is the design of the on-body antenna. The on-body antenna often forms both on-body and off-body links and needs to have an application-specific pattern to secure the connection. The antenna should direct its energy in parallel to the human skin while establishing an on-body link, ideally omnidirectionally, while an on-body link would benefit from a directional radiation pattern perpendicular to human skin. Moreover, the lossy body tissue is within the reactive region of the antenna affecting the antenna performance; …

Secure Access Control In Multidomain Environments And Formal Analysis Of Model Specifications, Fatemeh Nazerian, Homayun Motameni, Hossein Nematzadeh

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Distributed multiple organizations interact with each other. If the domains employ role-based access control, one method for interaction between domains is role-mapping. However, it may violate constraints in the domains such as role hierarchy, separation of duty, and cardinality. Therefore, autonomy of the domains is lost. This paper proposes secure interoperation in multidomain environments. For this purpose, a cross-domain is created by foreign permission assignment. In an effort to maintain the autonomy of every domain, several rules are defined formally. Then, a decentralized scheme is used to provide permission mapping between domains. At the next stage, the proposed cross-domain is …

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The study of electrical distribution of primary networks design is oriented to reduce the construction costs and the energy losses by transmission. The topology for the implementation of distribution networks may vary according to the geographical characteristics of the final users and requires specialized optimization solutions with metaheuristics to improve the energy performance of the electrical power systems. A parallel genetic algorithm (PGA) is proposed to optimize a tree-based topology for large-scale electric power distribution networks. The proposed PGA uses the dandelion code, which allows obtaining tree-feasible solutions within each iteration of the PGA. This cannot be achieved with other …
