Performance Evaluation Of Tehran-Qom Highway Emergency Medical Service System Using Hypercube Queuing Model, Mohammadsadegh Mobin, Zhaojun Li, Maghsoud Amiri
Mohammadsadegh Mobin
This paper studies the ambulance deployment of the Tehran-Qom highway emergency medical service (EMS) system. The response time of EMS to an emergency call can have impact on the users in terms of the life and death, and this performance metric is evaluated using the proposed hypercube queuing model. The model is based on spatially distributed queuing theory and Markovian analysis approximations, and it is one of the most effective approaches for analyzing emergency response systems. In this research, performance measures of the EMS including workloads and mean response times are evaluated using the hypercube model. Modification to the existing …

Topsis As A Method To Populate Risk Matrix Axes, Christian Salmon, Mohammadsadegh Mobin, Afshan Roshani

This research utilizes TOPSIS (a Multi-Criteria ranking methodology) to populate the axes of a risk matrix when modeling risk exposure onboard commercial fishing vessels with the intent to identify mitigating interventions in low risk settings for possible transfer to high risk settings. The specific hazard of interest is the release of refrigerants into confined spaces onboard commercial fishing vessels. The metrics of risk are: 1) expectation that refrigerants are released onboard vessels, and 2) consequence of releases that have occurred. To model expectation: data were collected on the United States’ commercial fisheries, including location and number of participating vessels. These …

Multi-Objective X-Bar Control Chart Design By Integrating Nsga-Ii And Data Envelopment Analysis, Mohammadsadegh Mobin, Zhaojun Li, Mahdi Massahi Khoraskani
Mohammadsadegh Mobin
Control charts are widely used in industry to establish and maintain statistical control of a process for quality improvement. Economic use of a control chart calls for designing the optimal parameters for sample size, sampling frequency, and the control limits for the chart. This paper investigates the X-bar control chart design through a two-stage multi-objective optimization process. The multi-objective formulation reflects the multiple objective needs in designing an X-bar control chart. For example, these objectives may include average run length when in statistical control, the type-I error, and the detection power. The optimization process first searches the Pareto Frontiers using …

Applying data envelope analysis (DEA), this study focuses on the influences of objectivity and subjectivity on aircraft maintenance supervision evaluation and inspection procedure; the aim is to improve overall logistic operation and training efficiency. Moreover, the results of this analysis will be helpful for making decisions in training, management, capability and competitiveness
A Nano-Cheese-Cutter To Directly Measure Interfacial Adhesion Of Freestanding Nano-Fibers, Xin Wang, Johnny F. Najem, Shing-Chung Wong, Kai-Tak Wan
A Nano-Cheese-Cutter To Directly Measure Interfacial Adhesion Of Freestanding Nano-Fibers, Xin Wang, Johnny F. Najem, Shing-Chung Wong, Kai-Tak Wan
Dr. Shing-Chung Josh Wong
A nano-cheese-cutter is fabricated to directly measure the adhesion between two freestanding nano-fibers. A single electrospun fiber is attached to the free end of an atomic force microscope cantilever, while a similar fiber is similarly prepared on a mica substrate in an orthogonal direction. External load is applied to deform the two fibers into complementary V-shapes, and the force measurement allows the elastic modulus to be determined. At a critical tensile load, “pull-off” occurs when the adhering fibers spontaneously detach from each other, yielding the interfacial adhesion energy. Loading-unloading cycles are performed to investigate repeated adhesion-detachment and surface degradation.

Humanitarian Logistics Network Design For An Effective Disaster Response, Soumia Ichoua
Humanitarian Logistics Network Design For An Effective Disaster Response, Soumia Ichoua
Soumia Ichoua
In this paper we address the problem of pre-positioning emergency supplies prior to a disaster onset. The goal is to ensure a fast and effective response when the disaster strikes. Pre-positioning of emergency supplies is a strategic decision aimed at determining the number and location of local distribution centers as well as their inventory levels for emergency supplies. These decisions must be made in a highly disruption-prone environment where a timely response is vital and resources are scarce. We present and discuss a scenario-based model that integrates location, inventory and routing decisions.

Proximal Iterative Gaussian Smoothing Algorithm For A Class Of Nonsmooth Convex Minimization Problems, Sanming Liu, Zhijie Wang, Chongyang Liu

In this paper, we consider the problem of minimizing a convex objective which is the sum of three parts: a smooth part, a simple non-smooth Lipschitz part, and a simple non-smooth non-Lipschitz part.

Horizontal Well’S Path Planning: An Optimal Switching Control, Zhaohua Gong, Kok Lay Teo, Chongyang Liu, Enmin Feng
Chongyang Liu
In this paper, we consider a three-dimensional horizontal well’s path planning problem, where the well’s path evolves as a combination of several constant-curvature smooth turn segments. The problem is formulated as an optimal switching control problem subject to continuous state inequality constraints. By applying the time-scaling transformation and constraint transcription in conjunction with local smooth approximation technique, the optimal switching control problem is approximated by a sequence of optimal parameter selection problems with only box constraints, each of which is solvable by gradient-based optimization techniques. The optimal path planning problems of the wells Ci-16-Cp146 and Jin27 in Liaohe oil field …

Intelligent Items Traceability System – Rfid Vs Qr, Masoud Shakiba, Mandeep Singh Jit Singh, Mardina Abdullah

Nowadays traceability systems are an inseparable part of international business and are essential in manufacturing and supply chain management systems. The advantages of the traceability system are more obvious for products that are exported and those imported from overseas. Traceability is highly important in food management and for products with short expiry. In recent years there have been several investigations and publications on traceability systems criteria especially in the food industry in the US, Europe and Southeast Asia.

Project Management Decisions With Uncertain Targets, Jeffrey Keisler, Robert Bordley
Project Management Decisions With Uncertain Targets, Jeffrey Keisler, Robert Bordley
Jeffrey Keisler
Project management decision rules presume that fixed and inflexible targets have been defined for the project. If a project's slack is defined as the difference between actual project performance and these targets, then these decision rules can be characterized as maximizing the probability that slack is non-negative (i.e., maximizing the probability of meeting the targets). These rules rely on z-scores to compare uncertain performance to target levels. Following these decision rules will not always suffice for the project manager to act consistently with customer preferences. In particular, actual requirements may be uncertain or subject to change, and customers may have …
