The current most efficient solution to fighting liquid pool fires involves the use of firefighting foams containing fluorinated surfactants. The physiochemical properties of these foams are considerably different to all other currently available firefighting foams. Fluorinated surfactants lower the surface tension to a point where the foam solution draining from the foam structure forms a continuous aqueous film on the surface of a volatile hydrocarbon fuel, adding an additional barrier to fuel vapor diffusion to the burning fire. For this reason, these foams qualify as aqueous film forming foams (AFFFs). However, fluorinated compounds are extremely harmful for the environment due …

Incorporating each aspect of engineering incorporated into a senior project is difficult. That is why an RC Baja car is a great senior project for Mechanical Engineering students. The approach that students must take to design, construct, and test the car is to set parameters, and to make overall goals that can be easily measured. These goals include, but not limited to things like a $700 budget and the ability to withstand a 1-foot drop to a flat surface on all four wheels simultaneously. First, the design must meet the specifications and rules that are set previously. This ensures that …

Rc Mini Baja Car - Suspension And Chassis, Collin Mckenzie
All Undergraduate Projects
Two students have developed a unique design of the RC Baja Car to optimize functionality and performance. A Baja car is a remote controlled 1/10 scale car that is used for recreation or competition, usually meant for competing in the ASME Baja car competition versus various schools. The competition focuses on the best time achieved in different courses that utilize speed, turns, and jumps. The objective for the project was to create a unique suspension from previous individual’s projects by creating a four-link suspension in which allows more travel in the suspension of the car and maintains functionality with the …

Frequently, difficulties are encountered with mineral pulps in a mineral-processing plant, which are not alleviated or minimized by the application of such simple measures as varying fineness of grind of solid material, changing pulp density, or altering equipment operation (within practical limits). The basis of the difficulty in such a situation may be found in the very nature of the pulp-- its flow characteristics and behavior. Recognition of the problem followed by one-point viscometric measurement to determine fluidity can lead an operator to erroneous conclusions. Underlying this difficulty is the lack of technical literature concerning the application of ion exchange …
