Energy Efficient Configuration Or Perforated Solar Screens For Residential Desert Buildings, Rasha Arafa Dec 2021

Energy Efficient Configuration Or Perforated Solar Screens For Residential Desert Buildings, Rasha Arafa

Archived Theses and Dissertations

In hot arid desert environments, the solar radiation passing through windows increases the cooling loads and energy consumption of buildings. Shading of windows can reduce these loads. External perforated wooden solar screens were traditionally used for windowsâ shading. However, there is a lack in understanding their performance in a quantitative manner and unavailability of scientific means that could be used for developing new efficient designs that suit the harsh desert conditions. This thesis investigates the impact of changing screen configurations such as perforation percentage, depth, perforation openings aspect ratio and reflectivity on the energy loads, hence defining the most efficient …

Powder Rolling Of Cnt-Reinforced Aluminum Strips, Mostafa Abdel-Fattah El-Borady Jun 2008

Powder Rolling Of Cnt-Reinforced Aluminum Strips, Mostafa Abdel-Fattah El-Borady

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were added to aluminum powder (99.97% pure) to produce a composite material. Three mixing techniques were examined

1 Low energy mixing: Using a Turbula mixer with two different speeds 48 and 67 rpm.

2 High energy mixing: Using a ball mill without adding any balls in the mixing jars with two speeds 300 and 400 rpm.

3 Ball milling: Using the ball mill (with steel balls) to mix higher CNT weight fraction samples for the electrical resistivity tests.

The mixtures were packed in copper cans and rolled in a rolling machine to compact the mixture; …

Guidelines For The Application Of Recycled Concrete Aggregate In The Egyptian Construction Industry, Ahmed Moustafa Essam Aly Kamel Jul 2007

Guidelines For The Application Of Recycled Concrete Aggregate In The Egyptian Construction Industry, Ahmed Moustafa Essam Aly Kamel

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Construction industry is one of the most important fractions of economy worldwide. This industry consumes enormous amounts of raw materials and produces considerable waste. The optimization of construction material usage not only saves costs but also can significantly contribute towards sustainable development. The concept of recycling the construction and demolition rubble is being addressed in this study as a solution. The recycling of concrete, resulting from both the construction activities and the demolition activities, in order to be used as a source of aggregate is being focused upon in this study. Although the idea of using recycled concrete has been …

Numerical Modeling Of Concrete Masonry Walls Strengthened By Fiber Reinforced Polymers Under Lateral Loads, Mohamed Salama Jul 2006

Numerical Modeling Of Concrete Masonry Walls Strengthened By Fiber Reinforced Polymers Under Lateral Loads, Mohamed Salama

Archived Theses and Dissertations

The use of fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) for the seismic retrofit of masonry walls is on the rise. Design formulae are available to estimate the lateral load capacity of the strengthened walls. However, recent experimental data from tests conducted on full scale concrete masonry walls under cyclic lateral loads have shown that these design capacities have not been reached because of the occurrence of other failure modes not accounted for in the design formulae. The limiting failure mode in all test samples referred to in this work was due to premature compression failure of the masonry units at the wall …

Improved Compressed Earth Blocks, Tarek Mahmoud Ahmed Elgindy Feb 2005

Improved Compressed Earth Blocks, Tarek Mahmoud Ahmed Elgindy

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Bricks and blocks, being two of the most important building materials in our construction field, can be made out of different materials, most popular of which are earthen materials. Ancient civilizations used earthen materials as a cheap and easy way to make bricks from which they built their houses and shelters. Ancient Egyptians used "mud" (which is technically silt and clay) to make bricks which we call now adobe. These days, despite the low cost of adobe it is loosing grounds in the construction of housing because of its very low compressive strength and poor durability against weathering. Accordingly, cement …

Durability And Stability Of Briquetting From Solid Agricultural Wastes, Ishaq Oladapo Adeleke Feb 2004

Durability And Stability Of Briquetting From Solid Agricultural Wastes, Ishaq Oladapo Adeleke

Archived Theses and Dissertations

This study is concerned with the transformation of agricultural wastes into useful solid form of energy known as briquettes. Being agricultural in nature, Egypt disposes huge quantities in adhoc manner resulting in economic loss and adverse environmental consequences. This improved form of agricultural waste eases utilization and storage. Two major parameters -residue size and processing conditions- were investigated. Bagasse-mudcake mixture, cotton stalk, rice straw and com stalk are the residues studied for briquetting. Since stable and durable briquettes are important qualities density and strength of the formed briquettes are calculated as measures of stability and durability. The problem is too …

The Localized Corrosion Behavior Of 6% Mo And 316l Stainless Steels In Chloride Media And The Effect Of Applied Mechanical Stress, Houssam El-Din Sabry Ahmed Jun 2003

The Localized Corrosion Behavior Of 6% Mo And 316l Stainless Steels In Chloride Media And The Effect Of Applied Mechanical Stress, Houssam El-Din Sabry Ahmed

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Electrochemical techniques were applied to study the crevice corrosion resistance of two types of stainless steel alloys namely, conventional 316L and super austenitic 6% Mo in acidified 3% NaCl solution at room temperature. Potentiodynamic results showed that 6% Mo alloy possessed a remarkable resistance to crevice corrosion compared to 316L alloy when tested in the same solution. The breakdown potential at which passivity broke down for 316L alloy was 0.00 m V, SCE, the corresponding value for 6% Mo alloy could not be reached up to the potential value of 700 m V, SCE. 316L alloy suffered extremely from crevice …

Assessment Of The Readiness Of Egyptian Companies To Implement Business Process Reengineering Programs, Hany Waguih Shoukry Jun 2003

Assessment Of The Readiness Of Egyptian Companies To Implement Business Process Reengineering Programs, Hany Waguih Shoukry

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Business Process Reengineering (BPR) emerged as a performance improvement methodology in 1990. Its objective of radical process redesign to achieve dramatic performance improvements makes it a potential candidate to be applied in most Egyptian companies, especially in the Egyptian private sector that is struggling to upgrade its performance in the new global economy. Although the main problem of BPR is its high probability of failure, which is due to the failure of companies to fulfill all BPR prerequisites, very limited research exists on how to measure the readiness of a company to implement successful BPR programs. The current research addresses …
