Analysis Of Corrosion Of Steel By Lead Bismuth Eutectic, John Farley, Dale L. Perry
Analysis Of Corrosion Of Steel By Lead Bismuth Eutectic, John Farley, Dale L. Perry
Transmutation Sciences Materials (TRP)
The goal is to achieve a basic understanding of the corrosion of stainless steel by Lead Bismuth Eutectic (LBE), which has been proposed for use in the transmuter as both a coolant and as a sputtering target.
Modeling Corrosion In Oxygen Controlled Lbe Systems With Coupling Of Chemical Kinetics And Hydrodynamics, Samir Moujaes, Yitung Chen
Modeling Corrosion In Oxygen Controlled Lbe Systems With Coupling Of Chemical Kinetics And Hydrodynamics, Samir Moujaes, Yitung Chen
Transmutation Sciences Materials (TRP)
The proposed work will combine chemical kinetics and hydrodynamics in target and test-loop lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) systems to model system corrosion effects. This approach will result in a predicative tool that can be validated with corrosion test data, used to systematically design tests and interpret the results, and provide guidance for optimization in LBE system designs. The task includes of two subtasks. The first subtask is to try to develop the necessary predictive tools to be able to predict the levels of oxygen and corrosion products close to the boundary layer through the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling. …
Hydrogen-Induced Embrittlement Of Candidate Target Materials For Applications In Spallation-Neutron-Target Systems, Brendan O'Toole, Ajit K. Roy
Hydrogen-Induced Embrittlement Of Candidate Target Materials For Applications In Spallation-Neutron-Target Systems, Brendan O'Toole, Ajit K. Roy
Transmutation Sciences Materials (TRP)
The purpose of this project is to evaluate the effect of hydrogen on cracking of candidate target materials for applications in spallation-neutron-target (SNT) systems such as accelerator production of tritium (APT) and accelerator transmutation of waste (ATW). The test materials will undergo appropriate thermal treatments prior to being hydrogen-charged by potentiostatic cathodic polarization technique in a simulated aqueous environment at different temperatures of interest. The specimens, upon completion of testing, will be metallographically examined. Further, the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) will be used to determine the extent and nature of cracking in the specimens tested. The thrust of the proposed …

solid solutions were synthesized for the first time by the hydrothermal method. The electrical properties of the solid solutions have been studied in air and under reducing conditions. Solid solutions with the fluorite structure were formed in all of the studied range of substitution after calcination at 1500°C. With increasing substitution up to 30 mol %, the electronic conductivity increases under a reducing atmosphere. The solid solution has good mixed electronic and ionic conductivity; the total conductivity is 0.42 S/cm at and 700°C with an estimated ionic conductivity of ca. .

We present the results of theoretical modeling and experimental testing of a diamond thin film sensor for flow studies. It is shown that the high thermal conductivity of a diamond film can enhance the frequency response of the flow sensor. One-dimensional heat diffusion equation was solved using the finite difference method for determining the frequency response. Two different sensor structures were analyzed: a Ni film on a quartz substrate (Ni/Q) and an intermediate layer of diamond film between the Ni film and quartz substrate (Ni/D/Q). The theoretical model predicts a frequency response for the Ni/D/Q sensor higher than that of …

Luminescence In Slipped And Dislocation-Free Laser-Annealed Silicon, R.H. Uebbing, P. Wagner, H. Baumgart, H. J. Queisser

Photoluminescence of cw laser-annealed silicon shows a dramatic difference in electronic behavior of the reconstructed material depending upon either creation or suppression of dislocations. Beyond a critical exposure time slip appears, and the luminescence of these samples is dominated by dislocation-related defect levels.

KWRRI Research Reports
Material balances on substrate and microorganisms were derived in conjunction with various mixing configurations thought to accurately describe the activated sludge process. These models include the completely mixed with bypass, plug flow, and plug flow with bypass. Two sets of kinetic mechanisms for substrate utilization and bacterial growth were employed.
A feed forward controller was designed from linear approximations of the material balances derived in the completely mixed with bypass mixing model. Utilizing frequency response methods, the controller was found essentially identical to a completely mixed modeled controller developed in a prior investigation.
Through computer simulation the controller's effectiveness was …
