Modeling And Simulation Of Microgrid, Ahmad Alzahrani, Mehdi Ferdowsi, Pourya Shamsi, Cihan H. Dagli
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Complex computer systems and electric power grids share many properties of how they behave and how they are structured. A microgrid is a smaller electric grid that contains several homes, energy storage units, and distributed generators. The main idea behind microgrids is the ability to work even if the main grid is not supplying power. That is, the energy storage unit and distributed generation will supply power in that case, and if there is excess in power production from renewable energy sources, it will go to the energy storage unit. Therefore, the electric grid becomes decentralized in terms of control …
Event And Time-Triggered Control Module Layers For Individual Robot Control Architectures Of Unmanned Agricultural Ground Vehicles, Tyler Troyer
Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Automation in the agriculture sector has increased to an extent where the accompanying methods for unmanned field management are becoming more economically viable. This manifests in the industry’s recent presentation of conceptual cab-less machines that perform all field operations under the high-level task control of a single remote operator. A dramatic change in the overall workflow for field tasks that historically assumed the presence of a human in the immediate vicinity of the work is predicted. This shift in the entire approach to farm machinery work provides producers increased control and productivity over high-level tasks and less distraction from operating …
Diffusion Modeling Of Impurities Through The Molybdenum Back Contact Of Cigs Solar Cells, Chinedum John Akwari
Diffusion Modeling Of Impurities Through The Molybdenum Back Contact Of Cigs Solar Cells, Chinedum John Akwari
Electrical & Computer Engineering Theses & Dissertations
CIGS is a major technology in photovoltaics and depends heavily, as any other PV technology, on the capacity to achieve the highest efficiency possible to compete on the market. Alkaline elements, notably sodium and potassium, play a key role in this matter as they enhance the open circuit voltage and the fill factor of the CIGS solar cells. However, this effect exists only for very specific concentration of sodium and potassium. These impurities typically diffuse through the soda-lime glass substrate.
Via modeling of the SIMS data, we try to understand and predict the diffusion mechanisms of these impurities from the …

Linear Quadratic Optimal Control For A Cascaded Converters-Based Microgrid, Amlam Niragire
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
There is a constant transformation of the electric grid due to an ongoing interest in the deployment of renewable energy resources and electric microgrid formation. This transformation, though advantageous in many ways, poses great challenges for the energy industry and there must be a constant improvement in modeling, simulation, analysis and control techniques in order to characterize and optimize the system design and operation. In this light, the scope of this thesis is focused on developing a linear model, analyzing the stability and designing an optimal linear quadratic regulator (LQR) for a microgrid system. The microgrid system used is inspired …

The Influence Of Bmss On The Characterization And Modeling Of Series And Parallel Li-Ion Packs, Sandra Castano-Solis, Daniel Serrano-Jimenez, Lucia Gauchia, Javier Sanz
Michigan Tech Publications
This work analyzes the effects of a BMS (battery management system) on the characterization and modeling of series and parallel connections of Li-ion cell packs. The Li-ion pack studied consists of four series modules connected in parallel. This pack has been characterized by means of charge, discharge and frequency tests. As a result of these tests, series and parallel influence on battery parameters have been determined. A model considering the effects of a BMS is established and compared with a model based on a single-cell approach. Experimental validations show that the single cell based approach gives poor results in comparison …

Quantitative Estimation Of Causality And Predictive Modeling For Precipitation Observation Sites And River Gage Sensors, Tri Vu Nguyen
Quantitative Estimation Of Causality And Predictive Modeling For Precipitation Observation Sites And River Gage Sensors, Tri Vu Nguyen
LSU Master's Theses
This project seeks to investigate two questions: correlations from precipitation measurement sensors to river gage sensors, and predictive modeling of peak river gage heights during precipitation events. First, if correlations can be quantified, then a predictive model can be explored to predict peak water levels at river gage sensors, in response to precipitation inputs. Answering both research questions can provide early flood detection benefits and provide quantitative time assessments for flood risks. An extensive data-driven study was conducted across a geographical area of the U.S, spanning the time period 2008-2016 to identify river gage sensors that are closely correlated to …

Modeling Of Two Dimensional Graphene And Non-Graphene Material Based Tunnel Field Effect Transistors For Integrated Circuit Design, Md Shamiul Fahad
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The Moore’s law of scaling of metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) had been a driving force toward the unprecedented advancement in development of integrated circuit over the last five decades. As the technology scales down to 7 nm node and below following the Moore’s law, conventional MOSFETs are becoming more vulnerable to extremely high off-state leakage current exhibiting a tremendous amount of standby power dissipation. Moreover, the fundamental physical limit of MOSFET of 60 mV/decade subthreshold slope exacerbates the situation further requiring current transport mechanism other than drift and diffusion for the operation of transistors. One way to …

Enhancement Of Supercapacitor Energy Storage By Leakage Reduction And Electrode Modification, Tete Tevi
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Supercapacitors have emerged in recent years as a promising energy storage technology. The main mechanism of energy storage is based on electrostatic separation of charges in a region at the electrode-electrolyte interface called double layer. Various electrode materials including carbon and conducting polymers have been used in supercapacitors. Also, supercapacitors offer high life cycle and high power density among electrochemical energy storage devices. Despite their interesting features, supercapacitors present some disadvantages that limit their competitivity with other storage devices in some applications. One of those drawbacks is high self-discharge or leakage. The leakage occurs when electrons cross the double layer …

Stability Assessment Of Isolated Six-Phase Induction Generator Feeding Static Loads, Kiran Singh, Girish Kumar Singh
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
This paper presents the stability analysis of a six-phase self-excited induction generator (SP-SEIG) based on the eigenvalue stability criteria for its linearized model. This demonstrates the small signal stability behavior during steady-state operating conditions. The eigenvalue approach also establishes an opportunity to correlate eigenvalues with machine parameters. The investigation in this paper reveals that the eigenvalues are dependent upon the machine parameters, and the most critical parameter is the variation in magnetizing inductance (L$_{m})$. The eigenvalues are varied in accordance with the machine variables and give focus to the stabilization of the SP-SEIG. A particular voltage build-up phenomenon is also …

A Methodology For Physically-Based Contact And Meniscus Properties In Rigid-Body Computational Knee Modeling, Stephen Wilson
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Determining natural inner knee mechanics is a longstanding goal for researchers with applications to prevention and treatment of knee trauma and osteoarthritis. Physical testing has only provided limited information of knee mechanics due to technical challenges and cost. Modeling has been used for decades to obtain some of this otherwise inaccessible information, and recently finite element analysis (FEA) has become a popular means to this end. However, FEA requires time intensive mesh-creation and has large computational requirements. Ideally, model creation should be easy and simulations should be fast to allow for sensitivity analysis. Although allowing easier model creation and offering …

In this study, an adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for multiband microstrip patch antenna (MMPA) modeling is proposed. The MMPA includes a single patch with inverted L-shaped stubs on the edges. The antenna production process needs iterative runs of the electromagnetic (EM) simulator, fabricating and testing the simulated antenna to find the optimum geometry. Production processes (design, simulation, fabrication, and testing) and the cost computation time add to the overall manufacturing expenses. A computer-aided modeling approach using the ANFIS is developed and trained with data acquired from the EM simulators, Sonnet Suites and AWR AXIEM, and measurement data. The …

Multifrequency Averaging Of Hysteresis-Current-Controlled Dc-Dc Converters, Yingying Liu
Theses and Dissertations--Electrical and Computer Engineering
Multifrequency averaging is one of the widely used modeling and simulation techniques today for the analysis and design of power electronic systems. This technique is capable of providing the average behavior as well as the ripple behavior of power electronic systems. Hysteresis current control has fast response and internal current stability through controlling switches to maintain the current within a given hysteresis band of a given current command. However the state space variables in a hysteresis controlled system cannot be directly approached by multifrequency averaging method because of time varing switching frequency. In this thesis, a method of applying multifrequency …
