The application of information technology in network control systems introduces the potential threats to the future industrial control system. The malicious attacks undermine the security of network control system, which could cause a huge economic loss. This thesis studies a particular cyber attack called the replay attack, which is motivated by the Stuxnet worm allegedly used against the nuclear facilities in Iran. For replay attack, this thesis injects the narrow-band signal into control signal and adopts the spectrum estimation approach to test the estimation residue. This project proposes a motorcycle safety system that increases safety by actively helping to prevent crashes while also helping in the case that an accident does occur. The system actively helps prevent accidents by keeping the user’s eyes on the road with three additions to the typical helmet. The helmet has a heads-up-display (HUD) containing the speed of the motorcycle and turn-by-turn directions. Instead of tilting their head down the user can see their speed and directions by moving their eyes which will keep the road in their field of view. The purpose of this project is to create a pothole detection device that can be attached to the underside of a commercial vehicle. Potholes cost motorists around 6.4 billion dollars annually, thus demonstrating the need for a system to aid with the detection and reporting of potholes. The four systems we needed to consider for the implementation of this project were the power system, the sensing system, the data processing system, and the reporting and logging system. The impact of false information injection is investigated for linear dynamic systems with multiple sensors. First, it is assumed that the system is unaware of the existence of false information and the adversary is trying to maximize the negative effect of the false information on Kalman filter's estimation performance under a power constraint. The false information attack under different conditions is mathematically characterized. For the adversary, many closed-form results for the optimal attack strategies that maximize the Kalman filter's estimation error are theoretically derived. In this dissertation, joint detection-state estimation and secure signal processing are studied. Detection and state estimation are two important research topics in surveillance systems. The detection problems investigated in this dissertation include object detection and fault detection. The goal of object detection is to determine the presence or absence of an object under measurement uncertainty.
