Learning Analytics For The Formative Assessment Of New Media Skills, Negar Shabihi

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Recent theories of education have shifted learning environments towards student-centred education. Also, the advancement of technology and the need for skilled individuals in different areas have led to the introduction of new media skills. Along with new pedagogies and content, these changes require new forms of assessment. However, assessment as the core of learning has not been modified as much as other educational aspects. Hence, much attention is required to develop assessment methods based on current educational requirements. To address this gap, we have implemented two data-driven systematic literature reviews to recognize the existing state of the field in the …

A maintenance optimization example was given for the determination of maintenance opportunity which is used to support the formulation and improvement of maintenance support program for repairable system.

Automated Optical Mark Recognition Scoring System For Multiple-Choice Questions, Murtadha Alomran Jan 2018

Automated Optical Mark Recognition Scoring System For Multiple-Choice Questions, Murtadha Alomran

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

Multiple-choice questions are one of the questions commonly used in assessments. It is widely used because this type of examination can be an effective and reliable way to examine the level of student’s knowledge. So far, this type of examination can either be marked by hand or with specialised answer sheets and scanning equipment. There are specialised answer sheets and scanning equipment to mark multiple-choice questions automatically. However, these are expensive, specialised and restrictive answer sheets and optical mark recognition scanners.

This research aims to design and implement a multiple-choice answer sheet and a reliable image processing-based scoring system that …

Adaptive Screen Generation For Mobile Devices, Caoimhín O’Nualláin, Sam Redfern May 2017

Adaptive Screen Generation For Mobile Devices, Caoimhín O’Nualláin, Sam Redfern

The ITB Journal

When one looks at any learning software - eLearning based or not - one cannot sometims help but think why the authors could not have organized the screens (or the means of navigation) in a way similar to some other piece of software which the user has used or come accustomed to using. In this paper it is hoped to be able to achieve just that. That is, to accommodate the adaptive screen design by building up a profile about the user which can capture the learning styles of the user and personal preferences, and to be able to have …

New educational pedagogies are emerging in an effort to increase the number of new engineers available to enter the workforce in the coming years. One of the re-occurring themes in these pedagogies is variations of the flipped classroom. Often the additional classroom time gained from flipping is used to reinforce learning objectives. It is hypothesized that it might be more beneficial to students if a portion of that time is used to address common non-cognitive barriers that prevent students from succeeding in the major. In a freshman Introductory Computer Science course, three different pedagogies are compared: a hybrid lecture-active learning …
