Computer Simulation Of Unsteady Flow In An Alluvial Channel By The Method Of Characteristics, Dennis Lynn Richards Jan 1971

Computer Simulation Of Unsteady Flow In An Alluvial Channel By The Method Of Characteristics, Dennis Lynn Richards

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A number of dams have been constructed along alluvial rivers. These dams create reservoirs which serve to collect and store water, usually in large quantity, for use in supplying municipal needs, for supplying power and driving machinery, for furnishing irrigation, and for retaining the flow in time of floods. The characteristics of flow and the sediment-transport capacity of the channel change after these dams have been constructed. One of the major problems then confronting the hydraulic engineer is the rate of reservoir sedimentation and the change in river configuration. A problem of concern is the rapidity of reservoir sedimentation and …

An Evaluation Of An Aerated Lagoon System Treating Combined Dairy And Domestic Wastes During Summer Operation, Douglas M. Skie Jan 1971

An Evaluation Of An Aerated Lagoon System Treating Combined Dairy And Domestic Wastes During Summer Operation, Douglas M. Skie

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The Water Quality Act of 1965 and the adoption of the subsequent state water quality standards emphasized the general public's concern for the control of water pollution; for it has become the goal of our nation to maintain all American waters in a suitable condition for domestic and industrial supply, for recreation and for other beneficial uses. It is for these reasons that many communities have been faced with the problem of constructing new sewage treatment facilities or expanding present operations. The use of stabilization ponds as a means of providing sewage treatment has been the practice of many small …

Design Considerations In Food Irrigation, Hans G. Jepson Jan 1938

Design Considerations In Food Irrigation, Hans G. Jepson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Flood-irrigation is primarily a system of irrigation which utilizes a part or all of the surface run-off is diverted from contributing watersheds and distributed over the fields by dikes or ditches. Diversion is accomplished through the use of a dam or of dikes if the volume of water diverted is not too great. There are thousands upon thousands of fertile acres throughout the arid and semi-arid regions of the Great Plains which could be materially benefited if bolstered by a little additional rainfall. It is not possible to increase the normal precipitation over the area , but it is possible, …

A Plant Efficiency Survey And Experimental Plant Results Obtained At The Sioux Falls Sewage Treatment Plant, Sioux Falls, S.D., Lowell A. Yost, Hans Jepson Jan 1933

A Plant Efficiency Survey And Experimental Plant Results Obtained At The Sioux Falls Sewage Treatment Plant, Sioux Falls, S.D., Lowell A. Yost, Hans Jepson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

"Sioux Falls, the largest city in South Dakota is situated on a bend in the Sioux River. The flow of this river ranges from a recorded minimum flow or 9 to a maximum flood flow of 500 cu. ft. per second. As originally designed and built the sewage system emptied into the river at three main outlets. In 1910 the City had a population of approximately 14000 people, and during the next decade its population practically doubled. During this period of growth there was added to the industries of the City a large meat packing plant which has been steadily …

Stress Investigation And Design Methods For Composite Beams Consisting Of Concrete Slabs On Steel I-Beams, Hjalmer T. Person Jan 1932

Stress Investigation And Design Methods For Composite Beams Consisting Of Concrete Slabs On Steel I-Beams, Hjalmer T. Person

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The term, reinforced concrete, as generally used, is applied to that type of construction in which steel rods are imbedded in concrete members. In these members the steel and concrete are considered to act as a unit and both are assumed to be effective in developing the resisting moment of the beam.

A Traffic Survey Of The City Of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, George Everett Thompson Jan 1930

A Traffic Survey Of The City Of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, George Everett Thompson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

How to control the traffic on the streets of our cities is becoming one of the most important problems of the present day. an urban community depends for its existence upon the transportation facilities both internal and external. The external transportation is necessary for a city's growth because food supplies and raw materials must be brought into the city and the commodities which are produced in the cities must be distributed to other places.
