Civil Engineering Surrounds You, Claire Anderer-Armstrong

Undergraduate Research Posters 2018

Academic engineering departments are regularly asked to conduct tours of their laboratories to prospective CSU students. For the Civil & Environmental Engineering department, the tours typically take place in the Driving Simulation laboratory, which houses an RS-600 driving simulator. The purpose of this project was to develop a driving scenario that highlights various aspects of civil engineering. The programmed scenario will be used to conduct future tours.

Reaction Engineering Routes To Waste Gasification For Sustainable Living Environments, Stephen A. Reeves, Mohammed S. Suleiman, Joshua M. Cmar, Jorge E. Gatica Sep 2014

Reaction Engineering Routes To Waste Gasification For Sustainable Living Environments, Stephen A. Reeves, Mohammed S. Suleiman, Joshua M. Cmar, Jorge E. Gatica

Undergraduate Research Posters 2014

There is an increasing pressure to reduce waste generation and dependence upon fossil fuels in our society. The approach investigated in this project aims to address both concerns by formulating a low-temperature gasification process to process long-chain polymers typically found in municipal waste. Gasification routes which convert plastic and bio-waste into useful fuel syngas products has been extensively investigated. The novelty of the approach examined here consists on the use of a variety of catalysts, which can promote high conversion in gasification reactions at much lower temperature and pressure conditions. This route overcomes some of the financial and environmental shortcomings …

Using Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (Upv) To Predict Properties And Performance Of Pervious Concrete, Jeremy Adato, Norbert Delatte Sep 2013

Using Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (Upv) To Predict Properties And Performance Of Pervious Concrete, Jeremy Adato, Norbert Delatte

Undergraduate Research Posters 2013

Pervious concrete is a type of porous portland cement concrete with interconnected voids. This material has been increasingly used to reduce the amount of stormwater runoff from paved areas. It has also been shown to improve the water quality near low volume and low speed pavements as well as in parking lots. Due to the low compressive strength of pervious concrete associated with the high void content, it currently is not used in highway structures except perhaps as an overlay for conventional concrete pavement. The large, open pore structure of this material allows water to pass through its structure, thereby …

Steering Adaptation In A Driving Simulator, Brian P. Moran Sep 2012

Steering Adaptation In A Driving Simulator, Brian P. Moran

Undergraduate Research Posters 2012

Steering adaptation in a driving simulator occurs when participants, who possess the skills necessary to control a vehicle, modify their use of the steering controls to successfully interact with a driving simulator. This approach is sensitive to individual driving styles, as it is free of any threshold, criterion, or benchmark value and can be applied to any steering task at any driving speed.
