An Analysis Of The Passenger Vehicle Interface Of Street Transit Systems With Applications To Design Optimization, Walter H. Kraft

Dissertations

This research analyzes the Passenger Vehicle Interface of the street transit systems and presents applications for design optimization. The Passenger Vehicle Interface (PVI) is defined as the interaction between the passenger and vehicle elements of the street transit system.

Human observer and photographic studies were conducted in 17 cities in the United States and Canada to measure the time for queues of passengers to board various transit vehicles. The data were analyzed by considering seven factors that affect the Passenger Vehicle Interface: Human Factor, Modal Factor, Operating Practices, Operating Policies, Mobility, Climate and Weather, and Other System Elements. Those effects …

Simulation Of Alternative Airline Terminal Check-In Disciplines, Luis Alvero Lopez Aug 1975

Simulation Of Alternative Airline Terminal Check-In Disciplines, Luis Alvero Lopez

Masters Theses

Computer simulation has become a very useful and flexible tool in the planning process of passenger facilities. By this means the probability of queues, congestion and delays can be determined, and different design concepts and operational disciplines can be considered experimentally.

Within this thesis two different check-in disciplines, restricted flight system, and common system are compared. The stochastic simulation models developed to evaluate the performance of the alternative check-in systems examined the impact of 1) changes in the number of passengers boarding per flight, 2) reduction in the number of counters, and 3) different time value to the passengers. Input …

Denitrification Of A Synthetic Waste With A Submerged Filter, Dominic Joseph Grana Jan 1975

Denitrification Of A Synthetic Waste With A Submerged Filter, Dominic Joseph Grana

Masters Theses

"The facultative anaerobic submerged filter is a plug flow, packed bed, column type reactor in which the facultative microorganisms responsible for nitrate reduction are attached to the filter media. The objective of this study was to evaluate filter performance and the kinetic equations of the process under variable conditions of flow rate, nitrate nitrogen concentration, and organic loading.

Two 0.5 cu ft (14.25 1) laboratory filters were operated for 144 days at 35°C using a synthetic waste as the substrate. Filter media consisted of smooth quartzite stone, 1 to 1.5 in. (2.54-3.82 cm) in diameter. Each filter had a porosity …
