Clinical Instructors Perceptions Of The Pta-Cpi Assessment Of Critical Thinking, Trudy L. Hansen

The purpose of this study was to analyze how critical thinking skills are assessed for Physical Therapist Assistant students within the state of Kansas. Eight face to face interviews were conducted with clinical instructors who use the Physical Therapist Assistant Clinical Performance Instrument (PTA-CPI) as the instrument to assess critical thinking. Physical Therapy educational facilities supplied the names of clinical instructors who met the study’s criteria. Clinical instructor’s gave their definition of critical thinking, stated the advantages and disadvantages of the PTA-CPI, described their perceptions of a PTA student’s critical thinking skills in the clinical educational setting, and discussed what …

The prevalence of substance use among adolescents warrants considerable concern since it often has detrimental effects on an individual’s physical and mental health, and correlates with worsened Social, physical, and employment outcomes. Research shows that adolescents with disabilities are especially susceptible to the development of substance use disorders. To address this concern and to ensure accurate rehabilitation service planning, effective screening for substance use risk is necessary. Instilling Hope: Showing Individuals With New Disabilities Between The Ages Of 18 And 24 That Suicide Is Not The Answer, Christine Ann Whiting

The purpose of this dissertation is to explore what can be done to mitigate the onset of a disability for young adults aged 18-24 in order to prevent suicidal thoughts or actions. Research suggests that many factors play into suicidal ideation for this young population, including lost hope, lack of coping mechanisms, lack of financial security and bullying. The goal of this research is to determine what rehabilitation professionals can do differently that will hopefully eradicate suicide for this group.

Discussions of sex education of any kind can be controversial in a given setting. Traditional approaches to sex education prompt debate regarding effectiveness. Key indicators central to the effectiveness of sex education continue to be rates of teen pregnancy and transmission of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). With discontentment surrounding the effectiveness of “traditional approaches,” a more wide-ranging method is worthy of being explored. Previous findings show that there is a misconception of the counseling profession and a lack of awareness of their role in interprofessional collaboration; which may lead to underutilization of counselors for team based care. As an example, in 2009 six professional health related associations developed core competencies for interprofessional collaborative practice and counseling associations were not involved in the development. INTRODUCTION Interprofessional collaboration is essential to improve coordination, communication, quality, and safety of patient care. Interprofessional perception is an important variable in interprofessional collaboration as it can impact attitudes, ability to successfully engage in interprofessionalism, and willingness to engage. The study focuses on understanding perceptions and experiences of interprofessional collaboration of professional counselors and other allied health professionals.

METHODS Participants were recruited online and through snowball sampling. The survey was taken by a diverse sample of healthcare professionals.
