There is a historical trend of decline in available Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher Preparation programs and an increase in CTE course and program enrollments in Florida’s secondary school system. This contradiction in CTE teacher supply and demand raises an important question. What is going on? More specifically, what sustains the remaining programs in the face of this decline?

Considering Teachers’ Classroom Literacy: Toward Uniting The Knowledge Base For Teaching And For Learning, Christi Michigan Edge

Drawing from both teacher education and reading/literacy education—distinct bodies of knowledge—I have investigated a problem situated in the unexplored space between (Edge, 2011). A Classroom Literacy framework (Edge, 2011; Edge, 2014; Edge, 2015) re-conceptualizes persistent problems in learning to teach in light of research on literacy, in order to (a) understand how teachers make meaning from classroom events and to (b) articulate how teachers’ literacy practices can purposefully guide K-12 learners to actively build knowledge and understanding. The Western Sydney Rustbelt: Recognizing And Building On Strengths In Pre-Service Teacher Education, Loshini Naidoo, Jacqueline Ann D'Warte

Preparing pre-service teachers to address the disparities in educational attainment that occur in settings with complex demographics such as high poverty and super diversity (Vertovec, 2007) require a theoretically driven contextual and spacial (Soja, 1996) understanding of disadvantage. This understanding highlights the structural and systemic inequalities that exist between the rich and the poor and limit social and economic mobility for disadvantaged students in schools. This paper uses a conceptual and spacial understanding to focus on the strategies implemented by a primary and secondary pre-service teacher program to support and improve pre-service teacher learning of disadvantaged schools.
