In the United States, there exists a multitude of universities that offer Agricultural Education programs. This project aligned with the American Association for Agricultural Education (AAAE) research value Advanced Public Knowledge of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (AFNR) Systems by contributing to education efforts aimed to analyze the quantity of content coursework curriculum required in Agricultural Education degrees across the nation (AAAE, 2023). In December of 2020, The Illinois State Board of Education approved the Culturally Responsive Teaching Standards to promote a more sensitive approach to matters of race, gender, and sexual orientation in the school curriculum. This presentation will highlight the key components of the newly adopted standards and prepare future educators to teach in classrooms with diverse populations. Participants will understand cultural and community diversity, systems of oppression, examine their own belief systems, and learn how to incorporate students’ experiences, cultures, and community resources into their instruction.

Accurately assessing student performance helps instructors develop more effective classroom materials to increase proficiency in the target language. In order to facilitate this process in my classroom, I have developed rubrics for Speaking and Listening that are based on ACTFL guidelines, and that can be easily modified to suit the specific needs of any language at all levels from Novice through Distinguished. Thus, these rubrics can be very useful not only for the individual instructor, but also for language departments that wish to use a common rubric for assessing student performance.
