This report from the Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium (MERC) explores research related to Advanced Placement (AP) courses through an equity lens. It answers five questions: 1) What are AP classes? 2) Who enrolls and succeeds in AP classes? 3) Why do disparities in AP matter? 4) What factors contribute to disparities in AP participation and performance? 5) What policies and practices help to address disparities in AP access, enrollment, and performance? The report comes from the MERC Equitable Access and Support for Advanced Coursework study.

In this article, the authors explore a rise in violent protest among white college men, theoretical interpretations of this trend, and recommendations that student affairs educators can implement to address the harmful acts of white male on campus. By examining hegemonic masculinity, the theory of dispossession, anomic protest masculinity, and white men’s disengagement in college, student affairs professionals can begin to understand the larger contemporary trend of student activism among white college men. As part of a larger investigation into the spiritual climate at one Lutheran college, we interviewed Protestant Christian students in order to compare their conceptualizations of spirituality, religion, and faith with biblical notions of those concepts. We found that the students' understandings of those concepts only loosely reflected general understanding within the higher education literature, and a significant disconnect existed between their conceptualizations of the relevant terms and those found in the Bible. Sexual Assault Survivors’ Perceptions Of Campus Judicial Systems., John D. Foubert, Dallas Durant

The purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate the experiences and perceptions of college sexual assault survivors who seek formal, on-campus action against their perpetrators. The authors interviewed seven female survivors from various institutions across the country and compiled themes and suggestions relating to their experiences. Participants reported substantial dissatisfaction with both the on-campus judicial process and the outcome of that process. They also noted several key positive aspects of the on-campus judicial system. Implications for counselors and other professionals who support rape survivors are discussed.

In light of post 9/11/01 realities, we studied the need for retooling crisis management plans on college campuses. A review of the literature, expert interviews, and document analysis yielded several promising practices to be included in recommended guidelines for crisis management plans.
