The purpose of this research is to learn more about the teacher perception of student engagement during STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) activities, specifically for students with disabilities. Additionally, this research enhances the understanding of which accommodations teachers perceive to be beneficial for students with disabilities, specifically during STEM curricula with an engineering component. To accomplish this purpose, the results from eight teacher interviews were analyzed qualitatively, being treated as case studies. Beta Drift: Forecasting The Manifold Relationships Between Students And Their Pursuit Of Stem Careers, Douglas D. Havard

The purpose of this study was to examine the extent to which motivational and persistence factors predict the occupational career choices of underrepresented students in their pursuit of a STEM career. Data selected from the High School Longitudinal Study beginning with the base year through the fourth wave were employed in a large-scale multinomial regression analysis. Anticipated STEM occupation at the age of 30 was examined across six years of complex survey data using multiple taxonometric definitions. Teaching Beliefs And Teaching Practices: A Sequential Mixed Methods Study Of Post-Secondary Mathematics Faculty, Katlyn K. Cox

This mixed methods study explored the relationship between collegiate math instructors’ reported teaching practices, teaching beliefs, and actual teaching practices. Instructors reported their own teaching practices by survey. Qualitative participants were purposively sampled from the quantitative survey results. These qualitative participants presented their teaching beliefs through an initial interview. Afterward, actual teaching practices were confirmed through classroom observations. Lastly, instructors completed reflective interviews to address findings in the previously collected data.Through the survey instrument, this study established common teaching practices of collegiate math instructors. The field of geophysical fluid dynamics (GFD) includes the study of both the motion and thermodynamic aspects of the atmosphere. These properties are of particular importance because they directly influence both local and large-scale weather and climate and are associated with various phenomena. One phenomena that is particularly influential is atmospheric blocking. Atmospheric blocks are persistent, quasi-stationary anticyclones (a.k.a. high-pressure systems) that occur in the atmosphere and disrupt the flow. There is a large disparity in current STEM education across racial and socio-economic status. The result is detrimental to these student populations, especially since STEM study and occupations are often used as an agent of economic mobility. So how do student and school characteristics in high school affect student outcomes in STEM? Using data from the HSLS:09, I used logistical regression analysis and cross tabs to find that student academic achievement and student SES were the biggest factor when predicting student performance and perception odds in STEM. In this inquiry I used Black Feminist Thought as the interpretive lens to investigate the characterizations and experiences of high achieving Black women undergraduate engineering and mathematics majors at a predominantly white institution. The qualitative inquiry considered intersecting oppressions to evaluate the experiences of this population.
