A Multiplicity Of Journeys: Stem Education Ecosystems As Sources Of Cultural Sustenance, Christopher Louis Beauprey Cardiel
A Multiplicity Of Journeys: Stem Education Ecosystems As Sources Of Cultural Sustenance, Christopher Louis Beauprey Cardiel
Dissertations and Theses
In this document, I outline the context and significance of a research problem faced by both formal and informal science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) educators in the Portland metro area--specifically, the need for greater understanding of the individual and cultural motivations, needs, and agentic behavior of learners, as well as the ways in which these factors intersect with learners' experiences of cultural sustenance within their holistic STEM education ecosystems. I base the significance of this problem on the racial and gender inequities evident in the STEM fields and the social and cultural dynamics that discourage members of these groups …
Next Generation Science Standards And Physics First: A Case Study Of High School Teachers' Beliefs And Practices, Stephen Godfrey Scannell
Next Generation Science Standards And Physics First: A Case Study Of High School Teachers' Beliefs And Practices, Stephen Godfrey Scannell
Dissertations and Theses
This dissertation is a case study of a school district in the Pacific Northwest that developed three-year high school science curricula using a Physics First course sequence (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), with the crosscutting concept Patterns as the central theme of the courses. The purpose of the study was to examine the impact of the implementation of the 9th grade course, Patterns Physics, on teacher practice and beliefs about science teaching and determine whether this new approach facilitated teacher classroom practices and beliefs congruent with those expressed in A Framework for K-12 Science Education (NRC, 2012) and the Next Generation Science …

An Enrichment Program In Science For Gifted Children In Grades One And Two, Margery Alice Skeen
All Master's Theses
This paper is a review of the literature and presents a number of suggested concepts that could serve as an enrichment program in science for the gifted child in grades one and two.
Development Of A Tentative Science Program For Hebeler Elementary School, Paul Emil Drotz
Development Of A Tentative Science Program For Hebeler Elementary School, Paul Emil Drotz
All Master's Theses
The purpose of this study is to (1) develop a group of science topics and subtopics used and accepted for elementary science; and (2) list certain criteria concerning Hebeler Elementary School (H.E.S.) which can be used in determining appropriate content for the science program; and (3) select topics and subtopics for developing the H.E.S. science program using the listed criteria for selection.
A Study Of Selected Topics To Be Taught In Sixth-Grade Science In The Grant School, Ephrata, Washington, Lewis Clyde Graham
A Study Of Selected Topics To Be Taught In Sixth-Grade Science In The Grant School, Ephrata, Washington, Lewis Clyde Graham
All Master's Theses
The purpose of this study will be (1) to set up a series of units from which a sixth grade science program can be built; (2) to determine what materials can be used to teach this: and (3) to provide the nucleus around which an entire elementary science program can be developed.
Motivating A Fifth And Sixth Grade Classroom Interest By Teaching Science Units At The Center Of The Curriculum, Theodore R. Reich
Motivating A Fifth And Sixth Grade Classroom Interest By Teaching Science Units At The Center Of The Curriculum, Theodore R. Reich
All Master's Theses
The problem was to set up a classroom situation in which fifth and sixth grade students were able to use the study of magnetism, electricity, and electronics in such a way that interest and motivation toward regular curricular studies could be stimulated. The following devices were chosen to evaluate the experiment: (1) interest and motivational questionnaires, (2) a science completion test, (3) The Iowa Basic Skills Test, and (4) the behavior journal.
