Experiential Learning & Teaching in Higher Education
Experiential learning is increasing in prominence within higher education institutions. There is a lack of technology explicitly designed to support experiential learning pedagogies. This paper presents research that brings together learning analytics and learning theory to explore how technology could better support experiential learning programs. The research outcomes will be followed by a reflexive discussion about how insights from the research could impact the practice of experiential learning.

Purpose: The first attempt to develop and instruct a new course in evidence-based practice in a physical therapy curriculum proved problematic. The purpose of this paper is to describe the method of revising this traditionally taught course using a combination of flipping the classroom, team-based learning, and technology. Methods: Working with an Instructional Design Specialist, a weekly online preparatory module was created for each content topic using a variety of multimedia learning provisions including micro learning videos (PowerPoint with voiceover), transcript of the PowerPoint, a list of vocabulary words, reading, Quizlet, Flipgrids and Concept Checks. The purpose of this review is to examine and critique a new report on technology in regard to college access. The report itself builds upon a previous Get Schooled report from 2013, using updated information and newer programs and apps. The review summarizes the findings of the author, as well as the compilation of tools and their usefulness for students and families. Centered around the fact that many school districts in low-income areas do not have enough financial resources to fund high school counselor positions, the author suggests supplementing the counselor role with various apps and technology. Technology is rapidly changing the business landscape. Workforce skills gap is widening in the digital business environment. Universities and employers call for developing students’ higher-order thinking skills along with integrating technology into academic curricula. We conducted a survey to assess learning outcomes from two groups of undergraduate students: business majors and information technology (IT) majors. SAP ERP hands-on case studies were used for this comparative experiment. The student survey results showed that the students of both majors believed that learning SAP software can lead to more rewarding jobs and they felt confident about their competitiveness in the job market. Introductory communication courses are an invaluable resource for improving students’ abilities to speak confidently, passionately, and persuasively, while also inspiring them to become more engaged citizens. However, digital media present new opportunities and challenges for designing courses that are relevant to students’ personal and professional interests and goals. Instructors who incorporate digital communication platforms, networks, and technologies into their classrooms can better prepare students to meet the complex demands of the technologically-mediated 21st century. In this essay, I offer 10 best practices for developing students’ digital media literacies within multiple communication contexts.
