A handbook has been developed to aid in the integration of physical fitness and movement in an elementary classroom and/or to be used as a supplement to any existing elementary teaching cmTiculum. The handbook consists of eight content areas regarding the integration of physical fitness in the traditional elementary classroom setting: arts, communication, health, reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies. After being transferred to teach physical education, I wanted to prepare myself by gaining some background knowledge on foundations, concepts, and objectives in physical education. I noticed a large transformation in recent years from curriculums focusing on competitive, self-defeating games, to an approach aimed at teaching skills, cooperation and teamwork. I compiled research on the history, goals and intent, and cooperation and teamwork in the physical education curriculum. I also compiled research on the national and state standards, and evaluation and grading in the physical education program. The purpose of this project was to design and develop a Model Playground Behavior Program for elementary-level students in the Cashmere School District, Cashmere, Washington. To accomplish this purpose, current research and literature on playground safety and programs were reviewed. Additionally, related information from selected school districts was obtained and analyzed for possible ideas or practices to be included in the model playground program.

The Rainy Day Project was designed to meet the needs of approximately 758 students, 35 certified teachers including specialists, and 10 classified staff members during days designated by administrative personnel as closed outdoor playground days. It was created as a result of inclement weather conditions in the Grays Harbor County region of Washington State. The primary purpose for the creation of this project was to give students an alternative to sitting in classroom modules or standing under eaves of the school building. The alternative activity was the showing of video tapes during two different lunch recesses. The alternative aided in …
