Statistics indicate that Black males who continue to experience progressive disciplinary action in school eventually suffer academic failure, which inevitably leads to the school-to-prison pipeline. However, research proves that mentoring programs that are specifically designed for misbehaving Black males can be a viable option for improving behaviors, decreasing disciplinary occurrences, improving grades, and thereby increasing their chances of academic success in the classroom setting.

For many academic leaders, preparing for and successfully addressing accreditation expectations can be challenging. In this interactive session, a panel of representatives from multiple disciplines will provide advice and answer questions on how to prepare for and address accreditation expectations. Panel participants will be selected from assessment directors and program directors with successful experience in a variety of accreditation situations. Session participants will be invited to ask questions specific to their academic situations enabling the panel to provide insights toward a successful accreditation experience.

Is it possible to reduce the achievement gap simply by implementing effective instructional practices? Francis Scott Key Middle School in Montgomery County Maryland learned that building the cultural proficiency of teachers had to move beyond strategies. Francis Scott Key’s Student Voice Project helped both teachers and students transform their thinking about instruction, communication, and school improvement.
