Schools in America need Chinese teachers with experience and cross-cultural aptitude. The increasing rate of globalization and the rapid increase in the number of Chinese guest teachers teaching in the United States points to the need for continued study concerning teachers who can exhibit a more cross-cultural approach. A phenomenological approach was deployed in this qualitative study to explore the lived experiences of China-born Chinese teachers in American classrooms by looking deeply into the impact of culture and context on those teachers’ experiences in the United States. A Day In Their Shoes: Lived Experiences Of Five Agricultural Education Teachers Working With English Learners, Julie A. Ketterling

This dissertation took a phenomenological approach in order to take a deeper look into the experiences of five agricultural education teachers that taught English Learner (EL) students and factors that affected those experiences. Dunkin and Biddle’s (1973) Teacher Model provided the conceptual framework and underpinnings for the literature review. The study identified a pilot study teacher with EL experience and 4 agricultural education teachers that taught agricultural education at schools with at least a 15% EL student population.
