A Measure Of Student Attitude Toward Physical Activity At Central Washington University, Timothy D. Clark

The attitudes of students who were involved in service courses offered by the Physical Education Department of Central Washington University during the Winter Quarter of 1984 were given G. S. Kenyon's Attitude Toward Physical Activity inventory. The results showed that attitudes for male and female tested were similar within the six domains of the inventory, even though a wide variation of response was obtained in the individual domains by each sex group.

The purpose of this study was to determine what effect participation in activity classes has on the acquisition of physical fitness knowledge. No significant difference was found between activity and non-activity students. The performance of Central Washington University students did not differ significantly from national percentile norms. Certain topics of physical fitness knowledge were difficult than others. found to be significantly more A renewed effort in the construction and use of standardized knowledge tests in physical education was recommended.

In 1969 a questionnaire was sent to all Idaho high schools concerning girls’ athletic programs and the attitudes of girls’ physical education teachers toward athletics. Eighty-seven percent of the questionnaires were returned, an indication of high interest in the subject area. Results showed moderate participation in most team sports and low participation in most individual sports. Teachers demonstrated favorable attitudes toward girls’ interscholastic athletics and indicated a need for enlarged programs. Money, facilities, and qualified coaches and officials were viewed as major concerns of girls’ programs.

The purpose of this study was to partially evaluate the effectiveness of a kindergarten perceptual-motor training program in regard to improvement of motor skills. In this evaluation the primary effort will be to measure those aspects of readiness which are closely related to the specific objectives of the perceptual motor training program. A secondary effort will be made to evaluate the general efforts of the training on aspects of readiness less closely related to the specific objectives of the program. This study was undertaken in order to: (1) determine the basic motor skill and physical fitness levels of both migrant and resident students enrolled in the Chief Kamiakin School and Outlook School located in Sunnyside District #201; and (2) apply this knowledge to their present physical education program.
