A guide for implementing the foundation teaching academy course Careers in Education was developed and submitted for approval at Auburn High School. The Careers in Education Resource Guide was the accumulation of information to assist Family and Consumer Science teachers with the implementation of the first career academy offered at Auburn High School. Included in the Careers in Education Resource Guide was the alignment of curriculum components with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction Careers in Education frameworks. School-to-work uses experiences that integrate school-based and work-based learning and improve students' knowledge of and access to career opportunities. The purpose of this project was to design and develop resources for school-wide writing at the secondary level that focuses on the transition from school to work. This program focused on career goals of students enrolled at South Kitsap High School and South Seattle Community College. A community based service delivery plan was developed to meet the individual transition needs of 18-21 year old students with mild disabilities. The transition service was designed to ease the movement of students into post-secondary community life by providing prepatory experiences and community linkages. Students may receive services in the areas of recreation and leisure, vocational, and independent living activities depending on individual need.

The essential parts of a Vocationally Approved Performance-Based Technical Drawing Cuniculurn were developed and based on components of the Washington State Commission on Student Leaming, the Carl D. Perkins Applied Technology Education Act of 1990, the State of Washington Districtwide Plan For Vocational Education, the Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS report) and the recent change from Industrial Arts philosophies to Technology Education philosophies. Vocational Education: An Effective Training Program For Post-High School Employment Of Further Training, Buckley D. Evans

The purpose of this study was to determine if vocational training taken in secondary comprehensive high schools or skills centers in Washington State had adequately prepared students for post-high school employment or further training. The results of this study were shared with the Governor's Council on Education, Reform, and Funding, the Washington State Legislature, the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board, and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. The information and resulting recommendations gleaned from this study will be used in part to shape the future of secondary vocational training in Washington State.

A Study Of Enrollment Trends In Accredited Vocational Programs In Small Schools In North Central Washington, Lyle D. Blackburn

Vocational enrollment trends of small school districts in North Central Washington were studied. Seven school districts located in Okanogan, Douglas and Chelan counties were charted. The data provided by the Office of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction show individual program enrollment as well as total vocational enrollment compared to total high school enrollment. The results support the hypothesis that small schools' vocational enrollment remains constant with regard to high school enrollment. Recommendations were made for further studies, to include a more in-depth study of large schools as well as the smaller schools.

The writer was requested to identify activities which might provide a more effective occupational curriculum at the Occupational Skills Center (OSC), a cooperative facility serving the high school students in the Federal Way, South Central and Highline School Districts.

After reviewing the existing programs, the decision was made to determine the most effective methods of attracting new students to the existing programs rather. than increase the number of classes.
