Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) individuals have specific healthcare needs, and often experience barriers in accessing quality and reliable health services. Research has revealed that medical practitioners are inadequately prepared to attend to the needs of the LGBT+ community.This paper will draw on the concept of intersectionality to discuss current medical school curriculum and its lack of LGBT+ education. This autoethnography is about different points in my life where I committed microaggressions towards the LGBTQ+ community specific to different genders, sexual orientations and/or how people in the community present themselves. I use “thick intersectionality” ‒ an embodied exploration of the complex particularities of individuals’ lives and identities associated with their race, class, gender, sexuality, and national locations ‒ as a means of portraying my message, voicing the emotions that I felt, and the identity I occupied at that moment. Queer-teacher lives aren’t easy! They experience isolation and bifurcation of their lives on a daily basis. How much more difficult must life be for these teachers in the theologically heteronormative context of the Catholic school? Yet, these teachers remain educators in these institutions, sensing goodness in what they are doing and in the future of these schools.
