The purpose for my correlational cross-sectional study was to explore the influences of proximal and distal forces on curriculum development and how it affects student achievement as it pertains to NJ ASK Grade 3. I sought to determine the strength and direction of the relationships between curriculum customization at the local level and student achievement on the NJ ASK 3 in Mathematics and Language Arts. Seventy-four elementary principals were surveyed pertaining to development, design, and implementation of their curriculum.

Many curricular innovations, including cross-curricular teaching, are started in schools without adequate teacher preparation and support, reducing the effectiveness of the interventions in supporting student learning. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to describe the implementation of the cross-curricular connections teaching technique in middle schools. Research questions focused on how middle school teachers experienced implementation of cross-curricular teaching at the incident level and how teachers perceived cross-curricular teaching and its long-term value. Given 117 students in grades seven, eight, and nine, four teachers, seven periods per day, and adequate facilities, prepare a program of studies that will meet the needs of the youth of Lower Crab Creek School District. This will be (1) an accredited junior high school located in Royal City, Washington, and (2) the program of studies will meet standards at least comparable to those in neighboring communities presently educating the ninth-grade students of the Lower Crab Creek School District.
