The problem of this study was to develop a six-week self-contained module for teaching Construction Technology on residential house framing to junior high school students. The unit covered various areas of construction involving framing procedures. Three important areas of study have been developed. They include floor framing, wall framing and roof framing.

Among the variety of components comprising the PSI package originally described by Keller (1968) is the use of proctors which permit immediate scoring, tutoring, and personal-social interactions. Recent research has indicated that immediate scoring may not be an essential proctor function. However, personal-social interactions and tutoring may affect student academic performance and consumer satisfaction. Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of the personal-social aspect of proctoring. Traditional university modes of instruction have been shown to be less effective than. both PSI and peer tutoring procedures. The present study compared the relative effectiveness of proctors and peer tutors in a PSI type course.

Twelve subjects were randomly assigned to the experimental conditions. The within-subject variable was the order of exposure to the teaching. Methods (being proctored, being tutored, or tutoring) and the. between-subject variables were type of teaching method (proctor-ed or peer tutored) and the number of the trial (first or .second test under the assigned teaching condition).

Student Attitudes Toward Personalized Instruction At Mankato State College, Earl L. Lamont

A preliminary study was conducted on the Individual Personalized Instruction botany laboratory initiated at Mankato State College spring quarter of 1969. Three quarters of the IPI were compared with three quarters of traditional botany laboratory classes that were attended by students prior lo the inception of the IPI laboratory. The IPI students achieved as well as or better than the traditional botany laboratory students, according to their lecture test scores and final course grade. Student altitude was positive toward the IPI, which, was indicated by responses to a questionnaire.
