The period of transition from a frontier university library to a modern, progressive institution is examined in terms of staff, buildings, collection, services, and administrative and financial support. At the end of this period this Nebraska library had a reputation in excess of that indicated either by financial support or collection size. Timely administrative support and pioneering professional librarians developed initial procedures in cataloging, reference, and interlibrary cooperation, which made the Library at the University of Nebraska one of the outstanding research libraries in the West.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether regular education teachers, when given an intensive training program in all aspects of special education, will be more at ease when teaching handicapped students and in turn have im proved attitudes when working with these students. The data for the study were collected in 1984 and 1985 using a researcher-designed instrument entitled Special Education Attitude Survey (SEAS). The proliferation of university educational demand in Nigeria occurred as a result of the oil boom and the subsequent creation of nineteen states. In 1974, Ibadan and Lagos Universities were the only federal universities; in 1976 seven more universities were created. The sudden increase, from two in 1974 to thirteen federal universities in 1976, necessitated the adoption of the formula funding model, which was perceived as being capable of allocating resources to all similar academic programs in the institutions. Purpose. The purposes of this study were to determine: (a) to what extent does faculty burnout exist within the California State University (CSU) system; (b) the correlation between faculty burnout and various demographic factors; (c) the correlation of the measured variables of burnout as related to self-perceptions; and (d) the dimensions of burnout within the CSU system. Procedures. Full-time faculty from each of the 19 CSU campuses were surveyed. Two questionnaires were used to canvass respondents' feelings of burnout: (a) Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and (b) Faculty Feeling Survey. The number of responses analyzed was 370. Findings. The problem of this study was to determine the difference between industrial practices and perceptions of management toward training and education programs in selected manufacturing industries. The survey was conducted within a 50-mile radius of a regional university to determine how academic institutions could better assist industries with training and education programs. Data were collected through the use of a two-part instrument sent to 426 industries in North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. Part I collected data on the perceptions of industrial management. The purposes of this study were (1) to determine selected demographic characteristics of master degree graduates, who majored in school administration, and who graduated from the Graduate Division of Education since the 1976 Summer quarter through the 1981 Summer quarter; (2) to ascertain the extent to which these graduates perceived the courses of instruction in their academic preparationas being relevant to subsequent educational administration functions; and (3) to determine additional courses of instruction, not in the present curriculum, that these selected graduates perceived would be professionally relevant to current educational administrative functions.

The primary problem addressed in this study involved integration of the finding of the vast body of reading literature to determine if college and university reading-study programs generally prove beneficial to those participating in them. Included within this question were the following sub-problems: (1) For what student groups were college reading-study programs designed? Were programs designed to fulfill remedial/corrective, supportive, developmental or other as yet unspecified functions?; (2) What program content and program operation factors were identified within program reports?; and (3) What relationship, if any, exists between these program content and operation factors and reported program effects?

The purpose of this study was to identify communication concerns and develop recommendations for improving communication within the academic com- munity at the University of the Pacific.

The subjects were 165 randomly selected members of the academic commun- ity of the University of the Pacific. The sample represented the following academic categories: university president, academic vice-president, deans/ provosts, crpartment chairmen, and faculty.

The Problem: Little empirical data exist on the effects of the college experience. The Introductory Year Program at the College of the Pacific is based on the assumption that student development within the freshman year is of vital importance. This study investigated the differential effectiveness of the Program in terms of individual student expectancies, characteristics, and growth in intellectual disposition.

It was the purpose of this study to describe and to explore the factors in the development and the planning and organization of appropriate learning tasks in the field experience for the Central Washington State College Pre-Professional Students within the Ellensburg Public Schools.

The new experience for these freshmen raised the question: "What are appropriate learning tasks or competencies that these freshmen should or should not have?" Thus this study: (1) examined various learning tasks; (2) developed a rationale for appropriate competencies; and (3) developed and listed appropriate tasks in behavioral terms for these freshmen.

It is generally recognized that the State of Utah attempts to provide schooling to a higher proportion of youth than other states in the nation. Utah has the largest proportion of high school graduates (50 per cent) in its adult population, and also the highest median school years completed (12.2 years) by adults 25 years old and older. These are some of the highlights of the 1961 edition of the "Rankings of the States," an annual publication in which the National Education Association compares all 50 states in terms of educational effort and achievement.
