The American education system has experienced a change in the racial and ethnic background of the student population nationally and in the Long Island, New York region. Yet, the teaching population remains mostly white and female. Teacher preparation programs train teachers in content, pedagogy, and adolescent development. During the training, teachers need to develop their ability to connect and understand their students' cultural and racial norms that may not exist in their program of study. The purpose of this international workshop is to introduce the use of public radio as a non formal education (NFE) and enlightenment tool for HIV-AIDS across the listening population. It also targets the provision of media packages of literacy/educational tools that are specifically aligned to the life orientation for the society especially for individuals with HIV and their relatives, media practitioners, school teachers, students, as well as general public enlightenment on the prevention of HIV-AIDS.
