Resurrection Purpose, J. Scott Duvall Mar 2024

Resurrection Purpose, J. Scott Duvall

Press Releases

Humanly speaking, besides a few of the disciples, Jesus's closest friends were undoubtedly Mary, Martha and Lazarus. They were like family, and their house in Bethany was a place of safety and refuge.

One day the sisters sent word to Jesus that Lazarus was extremely sick and about to die. After a two-day delay Jesus began his four-day journey to Bethany. I don't always know what to make of God's delays, but I'm convinced they don't mean he doesn't love us. We hope for a greater purpose.

The worst happens, Lazarus dies.

A Biblical Theological Analysis Of Isaiah 11:1-10, Kaeley Sells

Biblical Studies Student Projects

Fear, unrest, and hopelessness were just some of the emotions that marked those living in Judah during the time that Isaiah was writing. Following the realization of the reality that Judah is to be destroyed, Isaiah was motivated to give prophetic words of encouragement to the people. He wrote to shed light on the great plan God had for His people and the ultimate righteousness, hope, and peace that He promises His people. For many today the emotions of fear, restlessness, and desolation are everyday occurrences as people wrestle with hopelessness amidst a world that seems to be falling apart. …

Biblical Studies Student Projects

Ezekiel 36:24-28 is an important passage both for the original audience and for modern day Christians. In this paper, the connections between this passage and the rest of the biblical narrative will be addressed. Why is God saying that He will give Israel a new heart? What is the motivation of God's action? How should we respond today? What led Israel to be in this position? These are all questions that will be addressed.

A Theological Extension Of Self-Efficacy: Academic Implications, Twianie Roberts Jan 2022

A Theological Extension Of Self-Efficacy: Academic Implications, Twianie Roberts

Teaching and Learning Faculty Research

Research indicates a positive correlation between self-efficacy and increased student achievement. Self-efficacy is an individual’s belief that they can exercise control over their functioning. Mastery Experiences, Vicarious Experiences, Social Persuasion and the Physiological well-being of an individual, are components of self-efficacy. This paper extends the traditional view of self-efficacy by introducing another component that effects the motivating factors within an individual. Through theological experiences, individuals in a Christian context utilize faith-based principles to access mastery, vicarious experiences, social support and physiological well-being. Through theological experiences, mastery experiences are acquired with God’s help; vicarious experiences are extended to a global Christian …

Biblical Emotional Intelligence In Relation To Clinical Pastoral Education, Deborah Ann Digel

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This study addressed the education of biblical emotional intelligence among chaplains and pastors in promoting self-care in ministry. A literature review revealed that research projects had not fully explored the relationship between biblical emotional intelligence and clinical pastoral education. This project explored biblical emotional intelligence as a teaching method that bridges the gap between pastors' clinical pastoral education and healthy emotional well-being. Emotional intelligence is a field that is associated with success in business and ministry. Pastors and chaplains are not addressing the lack of biblical emotional intelligence in their training and how it can affect ministry. This study aimed …

The Relationship Between Religious Commitment And Bible Literacy In Suburban New York And New Jersey Christian High School Juniors And Seniors, Pradeep Emmanuel Stephen

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This correlative study explored the relationship between the religious commitment of junior and senior Christian high school students and their level of Bible literacy as indicated by their respective scores on the Duke University Religion Index (DUREL) and Assessment of Bible Knowledge Test (ABKT). Using a non-parametric Spearman’s rho statistic for a correlation test, the study fills a gap in the literature by analyzing the strength of the relationship between students’ levels of Bible literacy and outcomes on the specific religiosity subscales on the DUREL instrument, including Organizational Religious Activity (ORA), Non-Organizational Activity (NORA) and Intrinsic Religiosity (IR). A non-random …

A Case Study Of Grade 12 International School Students’ Perceptions Of The Impact Of A Bible Curriculum And The Teachers’ Delivery Of That Bible Curriculum In A Christian International School, Rachael Peterson

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this qualitative case study was to investigate the perceptions of the impact of a Bible curriculum and the teachers’ instructional delivery of that Bible curriculum on grade 12 international school students at an open enrollment Christian international school in Asia. The theories that guided this study were Kohlberg’s moral development, Fowler’s faith development, and Piaget’s cognitive development theories (Fowler, 1991, 2001; Kohlberg & Hersh, 1977; Piaget, 1972). The study’s central question is: How does the perception of both the content of a Bible curriculum and the teachers’ instructional delivery of that Bible curriculum affect students at an …

Against The Odds With A Red Solo Cup, T-Shirt, And A Bible: Motivations And Expectations Of Non-Drinking Fraternity Men, Anna C. Edwards

Theses and Dissertations

Extensive research has consistently linked high-risk alcohol use and fraternity membership. However, not all men who join fraternities are high-risk drinkers. This qualitative descriptive case study describes the experiences and motivations of six nondrinking fraternity men to better understand who they were before they arrived on campus, why they joined the organization they did, and how they navigate the fraternity environment. The research conducted for this study indicates that their experiences and motivations for joining and staying in fraternities are identified in three primary ways: (1) their upbringing and the role that parental expectations play, (2) the influence of faith …
